Time to step up and give back to the community.

in steemstarnetwork •  6 years ago  (edited)

So I have been thinking about what I can do to help the community, whilst I can't be a witness because I have neither the finance nor the knowledge to do that. I believe there are plenty of people on the platform, teaching various things, I thought what could I do?

I have been listening in and taking part in a few shows and podcasts on the Steemstar Network. I regularly listen in and participate on VOTU (Voices of the underground,) PYPT (Pimp your post Thursdays) and now TOTL (Talk on the Line.) Two of them I am using to promote my own posts, and gaining an audience who are interested in my content.

Whilst I feel I am writing good content and getting engaging comments in the posts, I wonder if I am doing enough to serve the community. Giving it some serious thought I decided to contact @sircork last night.

I have offered to host a regular weekly show on the network, but I was not entirely sure what I was going to do, but it might be along the lines of looking at posts from people, which are not doing well and making them better. So that people could see maybe where they were going wrong, and what they could do to stand out a little more.

The torch has been passed.

Sircork made a great suggestion, when he was part of MSP he used to run Monday Night Minnow School, which originally was where people could come along and get advice about things like finding content, using markdown, how to network, and also making suggestions about offering to critique peoples posts.

When he made the offer at first, I thought could I do this? Could I make such an impact on other people to help them grow on the platform. Then whilst thinking and glancing through my activity, all the comments, the engagement, the thanks. A comment that I received yesterday really stuck out at me from a user called @laraszahostradio, who commented on my post about goal reaching for march, and they said this ....

Hello, I am a new member to steemit, and have found this nugget of feel good by searching the tag, ramblings, you are a crafty one my dear, I was hoping to have been the first to use it and was cleverly beaten by you, I read this post, and plan on reading your other posts that you have linked to, afterwards, I plan on completing my Profile page, I just wanted to congratulate you for two things, beating me to the punch in creating the tag ramblings, and your progress. If I may be so bold, may I assume English isn't your first language? No matter, I love you and goodnight.

I think this is the comment that really helped me to cement my decision about going ahead, and I would like to thank @sircork for not only giving me the opportunity, but having the faith in me to be able to do such a show.

So what's the plan.

So I still need to have further discussions with sircork and the team. And of course I would need to learn the ropes of course. And I think it would be a good idea to give myself two weeks, to learn and also promote the show to people who are interested in listening.

I have some segments planned already such as.

  • Critique your post.

  • Mastering Markdown

  • Creative Content

  • Succeeding at Sourcing

  • Taming your titles

  • True Trending.

  • Dynamic on Discord

  • Beat the bots.

These segment names could change but I wanted to make them catchy and attractive, and of course not mentioning that everything that I talk about is free of charge. No course fees or mandatory requirements, something hopefully for everyone.

Your input is much appreciated.

Whilst this is an exciting venture for me, I very much value your input. Whilst I have some ideas this show is overall for the community, so as much as I don't mind content ideas. Not everyone might like them, so if you have any ideas what you would like to see at Minnow School, please feel free to let me know and I will try my best.

Whilst I am no expert at steemit, I feel this could only be a good thing for the community and myself because it gives me the option to be able to develop my learning further. Also it gives me the opportunity to promote some of the fantastic servers that there are available.

I welcome your comments, for me with this exciting new venture and it is my pleasure to be able to serve the community better and help more of us grow.

Thank you for reading.

xoxo

This is interesting for me. I'm really looking forward to it. I get pounded with different things that "will help me improve" my blog, but I'm usually disappointed in the content creator. I am very excited about your project.

Thats it and to be honest you can always ask what you are looking for, the formatting is the same but styles are different.

Sounds interesting.
Would you be working with people personally to improve their posts or profile here on steemit.
As far as my personal opinion, I use steemit whenever free. So a dedicated time to attend your show would not sound possible for me.
Timezones are another challenge. A diclscord group with members from various timezones will help greatly. You can get along with interested people who will work with you as a team.

Thats a very valid point, and what I hope that we can have this on replays so that people are able to listen when it is appropriate for people. I will mention that also, and even of those people want me to for instance look at their posts I can an they can catch up with my feedback later.

Great initiative @crazybgadventure! You know I love what you already do here on steemit and this is even more exciting! I am looking forward to your input about these segment topics.
I agree with @blog-beginner about the time zones and the 100% attendance to the shows might be a big challenging.
Are you going to also post about these topics?
A discord group with the option for playback sounds great 🤗💪
Good luck @crazybgadventure!

Oh no...no one would have to have 100% attendance not at all, people can simply come and get what ever information they need.

Hello @crazybgadventure

Your name still lurks in my mouth, I could cut my tongue trying to pronounce that 😂😂.

Well, I'll say congratulations to you for such a wonderful initiative that you've come up with. It really is amazing and I hope to join you on the network as you bring your own awesomeness to the Steem Blockchain.

Well, I'll also like to know the days you'll schedule for your regular weekly show. And would you create your own discord server? Hope I'm not bugging you with my questions?

Truly this is a welcome development and I can't wait to learn from you friend. Keep being amazing. Cheers!

I don't think I will be creating another server, there are enough of these now for people to get help my proposal is a radio show once a week covering these areas.

Aside from offering help with Markdown, it might also be a good idea to include HTML to that. Especially tricks that improve formatting would be really nice.

Good point, I don't do HTML I don't have the knowledge for it but a show of me learning HTML would be good so we can all talk about it.

Oh wow count me in as a supporter (through upvotes) and a listener. I practically live in Discord and I am always in StarSteem Network and in Ramble all the time.

Hmm I'll think of things for you as well.

Thank you for your support @maverickinvictus

I love your ideas and that you have a desire to reach out and help this community. Things like this is what helped me not to be afraid to stay on this plattform and give it a try. Sometimes you just don’t know where to start because there is a lot to surf through.

Knowing how to use Markdown, coming up with unique title names and being on Discord are very important things to know about while on Steemit. I look forward to seeing where this goes :) Thank you for all of your efforts!

Very true comment, to be honest what I would love is all those people giving it "nice post" be the ones coming to the show and finding out what they actually do need to do.

I would definitely come to the show! 😊

I think what you are doing sounds really good.

I know for most people finding inspiration for more original content is a big issue. It's an obstacle that they need help with.

So yeah that would be something to Focus on to help Minnows and even experienced Steemains deal with.

Thanks @crazybigadventure for doing this :)

Glad to hear the great feedback @robertandrew wonderful comment thank you.

Wow @crazybgadventure I love the segments you planned out, I think I would be stuck to your blog in 2weeks time to enrich my knowledge.
@antigenx
