Adenoids: Facts, Function, Symptoms & Treatment.

Adenoids this a tissue between the back of the nose and the throat, with help in speaking and breathing in young children. This is most common in children between 3 and 5 years old, it starts to shrink at the age of 7 to 8.

Function.

The adenoids are covered with cilia and mucus, the purpose of the mucus is to capture infectious bacteria and other particles and flush it away, the adenoids create antidot protect the body from sickness.

Symptoms

This is the Symptoms of enlarged adenoids if a child is an infection:

  • Snoring
  • Cracked lips
  • Runny nose
  • Restless sleep
  • Sleep apnea
  • Ear infections
  • Loud breathing
  • Dry mouth
  • Bad breath

Treatment.

Some children may be born with enlarged adenoids why some become swollen due to infection. To detect these adenoids you need to examine the throat with an endoscope and also take X-rays of the infected child. when all that is done you will discover you will remove the adenoids that process called adenoidectomy, this surgery will not take more than 30 minutes the surgery will be very painful but between few days the pain will leave.
