Today Rotterdam and ships had my attention when i saw the news. Dutch towing company and multinational Boskalis lifted a mega cruise ship of 8 meters up and aboard ‘Boka Vanguard’ a special ship.

Boskalis has succeeded in placing the cruise ship "Carnival Vista" on the heavy cargo ship "Boka Vanguard". The ship was loaded on the "Vanguard" off the coast of Freeport last weekend and sailed to the Grand Bahama's Shipyard on Saturday evening, cause it was irrepairable.

The cruise ship is being repaired there, while it is on Boskalis' ship. The Dutch towing company Boskalis Vanguard will lift the three hundred meter long cruise ship Vista from shipping company Carnival. Preparations for loading the broken ship have been underway since Friday, yesterday the cruise ship will be on the dock ship Boka Vanguard. Boskalis was commissioned to relocate the second largest cruise ship in the Carnival fleet with a capacity of nearly 4,000 passengers and with a length of three soccer fields to the shipyard in Freeport in the Bahamas. Boskalis can sink its Boka Vanguard ten meters. This brings it under the Vista, which has a draft of eight meters.

Then the world's largest semi-submersible elevator ship slides under the cruise ship where the rudder propellers are broken. However, there is no capacity for repair in nearby Freeport harbor after a large crane installation broke down. How cool, how inventieve and again Dutch Maritime and water management in broad Shape and form is Well know in the whole world.

That is why, after the lift work, the Dutch Boka Vanguard will serve as a workshop and floating dry dock for all repairs to the cruise ship in the Bahamas.

If the repair is successful, the Vista will continue its next cruise tour with four thousand passengers later this month. We are going with MSC cruises so i wont see this beauty.

According to Boskalis, it was cheaper for the Carnival shipping company to send the Boka Vanguard from the British coast to the Bahamas than to cancel the holiday of four thousand passengers.

The Dutch company Boskalis also recently got the job of salvaging two attacked oil tankers in the Gulf of Oman through its daughter Smit-Salvage.
They are also representeert in Rotterdam.

We Will be cruising later this year. I dont want to thi k that anything could happen but its true the Dutch always can help.
