Scattering makes your day to day different and surely you have not noticed! | My first post!

Hey there Steemians!

This is my very first post (so I would like to feel the love over here). So, i'm going start talking with the right foot about something that I actually LOVE and enjoy: (easy) science! For me, science have almost all the answers, for that reason I would show you my top 3 of science-touch in daily life that you could probably miss it.

1.- Why the sky seems blue?

This is basically due to Rayleigh scattering. When sunlight passes through the atmosphere to reach us, most of the red, orange and yellow light (long wavelengths) passes without being almost affected. However, much of the light of shorter wavelengths is scattered by the gaseous molecules of the air. To any part of the sky that we look at, we will be seeing some of that scattered light, which is blue, and that is why the sky is that color (Source).

2.- Why water seems colourless?

Because the photons don't bounce off the water; they just go through it. Well, not all photons cross it, some bounce and we perceive them (we see) as a reflection of water or in the form of it's liquid texture.

  • A photon is a form of energy that travels through space. When it meets an object, it hits it or simply crosses it. When hit, it is returned but modified by rubbing with that object. When it comes to our eyes, we do not really see the object, but the beam of modified photons that bounce continuously from the object. If we stop projecting photons on an object (we turn off the light) we stop seeing it (Source).

3.- Why do clouds seems to turn gray before it rains?

First, clouds are formed by transparent water particles so they absorb and reflect light.

Thus, although the drops of water reflect the light they receive, if the cloud is dense (that is, if it is charged with water), the light will not be able to pass through it, so it stops absorbing and reflecting the light. On the other hand, the same cloud, after "unloading", can re-shine white, since its lower density allows to re-scatter light, which means that the particles are more separated between them.

Again, science IS THE ANSWER, friends! Ok, it's a joke, but I love it when simple things can be explained through it.

If you have more scientific and not-so-scientific opinions to share with me, do it in the comments below, I will be willing to read them from Venezuela.

Hello catovar! Welcome to Steemit! Hope you'll like the community here. As a start, here are 5 tips that we believe will be helpful to you:

  1. Keep your passwords safe: Unlike conventional sites, Steemit has 4 types of passwords. Each offers varying degrees of access to your account, so know where and when to use each of them. Also, make sure to keep them all safe and secure.
  2. Get Steem rewards: When writing a post, you'll have the option to choose how to receive your reward: "Default 50%/50%" or "Power Up 100%". As of this moment, choosing Default 50%/50% is the better option. But this can change over time. Check our post to know more.
  3. Upvote wisely: When upvoting, wait at least 30 minutes after the post is published to maximize your curation reward. Also, make sure not to upvote too much too fast so as not to drain your voting power.
  4. Know your Steem, Steem Dollars and Steem Power: Steem and Steem Dollars are the 2 main currencies here. Convert and power up more Steem into Steem Power so you can have higher values on your upvotes.
  5. Have Fun and Enjoy!
