This is tested and safe for all even amateurs
We all know what oxygen is, the air we breathe in, but before we extract our own by some simple improvised methods, let's learn a little about oxygen.
Oxygen is an element found naturally in the atmosphere as a mixture in air, the name was given by a man named lavoisier, but the gas was first discovered by scheele and priestley in 1772 and 1774 respectively .
It is important to all living things and is significant in respiration where it oxidizes foods, and through processes there are broken down to release energy for normal life processes. Also, inorganically oxygen is very important in combustion, most substances burn in oxygen at certain conditions. Oxygen is tasteless, odorless and colourless.
now we know oxygen better let's go straight to producing it at home from water
source
Materials required
- Water
- Electricity source
- 2 plastic containers
- 2 electrodes (mainly Carbonplates)
- Galvanic bath
lets now go into the business of the day
steps involved
- pour water into galvanic bath, making 70% fullness, add 2mil of tetraoxosulphate(vi) acid
- make holes at the bottom of the plastic containers and pass an electrode and pipe through each
- place cups inverted in the bath, the carbon plates are in water and a layer of air established by the inverted cups.
- solder wires to electrodes and connect to source of electricit.
You should end up doing this:
(original photo by me)
As shown in that picture we ended up electrolizing water to produce hydrogen at negative electrode and oxygen in the cup at the positive electrode, this is tapped to a container through the pipe connected.
Precautions
Be careful with the hydrogen, as it is highly inflammable, close its pipe or rap to a container for storage.
*** This was very simple and straightforward, watch out for more***
