why does programmer prefer Linux over windows

I think that i am the right fit to answer this question, I started programming when i entered into engineering. Till then for me windows was the only OS I had used and have heard of something called Mac. after around a year i discovered Linux (Ubuntu), I installed it on my laptop (dual booted for windows) and i used to work on Ubuntu only for leaning the new OS, and used Windows only to do thing that was not possible to do on Ubuntu at that point of time. after using Ubuntu for over a year i realised that i do not need windows at all and removed windows from my laptop.I been more than 3 years now i have not used windows at all on my laptop. I will tell you the benefits of using ubuntu.

Its basically fast and low resource consuming.
It can do everything that a windows machine would do and you need not pay anything to use the OS as it is opensource.

most of the tools/software that programmes use have better support on Ubuntu.
Software installation on Ubuntu is very straight forward(Just search in software centre and install it)

The operating system has a lot of customisation, you can customise as per your use.

terminal is way better than CMD (if you love doing thing form the command line rather that using the GUI ), you can speed your tasks.

almost everything that a programmers wants to do can be done from the terminal, so i want to use your PC remotely then you can do that very easily.

there is a very good community support for Ubuntu, there are a lots of online forum where you can post your concerns and people from all around the globe will come up to help you.

I'm also feeling that one day linux will just take over windows. In linux you have better performance, privacy. And also for programmers there is Visual Studio Code which seems to be interesting, but also there is Sublime Text. Not to mention that Linux is free and most of the servers run Linux. IMO when more games start supporting Linux will be the time we can say bye to Windows.

I'm right there with you brother. I started on same boat. Dual boot then phased out Windows. Haven't looked back. As a coder I have to also agree that linux wins when it comes to free IDEs
