Diabetes mellitus is a situation whereby sugar builds up in the blood stream instead of the cells of the body. It is caused by deficiency in the secretion of insulin. The human body contains a specialized gland called the Pancreas. This gland secrets digestive enzymes and vital hormones that regulate the amount of sugar in the bloodstream. The most well known of these hormones is INSULIN. The food we eat is converted into a form of sugar known as glucose. Insulin is the body key that allows glucose to leave the blood stream and enter the body cell where it is utilized.
Insulin is like a ‘doorman’. It escorts sugar from the bloodstream into the cells. When it's working correctly, the sugar that comes down the bloodstream can go right into the cells of the body. Insulin opens the door of the cells, puts the sugar inside and closes the door. The problem is that our diets are often so fatty that, the doorknob is covered in grease and insulin's hand is slipping on this greasy doorknob, it can't open it up. The sugar builds Up in the blood, unable to enter the cell. The primary cause of diabetes, especially the adult on-set diabetes, is not sugar, although sugar aggravates the problem. It is not that the Pancreas is unable to produce enough insulin, but the problem is caused by the saturated fat gotten from the animal products coating the cells,
and not allowing the insulin to break through to the insulin receptor within the cells.
TYPES OF DIABETES
Type 1 Diabetes:
This is an insulin-dependent diabetes. In this type of diabetes the pancreas cannot make insulin. This type requires insulin for the entire lives of the patients. This form of disease occurs during the childhood years. The problem is with the pancreas inability to produce insulin.
Type 2 Diabetes:
This is non-insulin-dependent diabetes. It is also known as adult on-set diabetes, because the victims tend to contract the disease in their adult years. In this situation, the Pancreas is producing more insulin than normal. The cells are resistant to the insulin because the insulin receptors on the surfaces of the cells do not function properly. The type 2 diabetes requires:
A diet that is low in starch
A diet that is low in saturated fat.
A diet that has no sugar.
MAJOR SYMPTOMS OF DIABETES
frequent urination
Extreme thirst
Fatigue
Increased appetite
Repeated hard-to heal infections of the skin, gum, vagina, etc.
Blurred vision
Loss of feeling in the hands or feet.
Dry, itchy skin, etc.
If you experience one or more of these symptoms on a regular basis, make an appointment with your physician and get the facts about the symptoms.
DIABETES WHEN NOT TAKEN CARE OF CAN LEAD TO THE FOLLOWING COMPLICATIONS
Heart disease :
Adults with diabetes have heart disease and death rates that are about two to four times higher than others. The disease accelerates blood vessel damage and can prevent proper blood flow to the oxygen-dependent muscles of the heart.
Stroke:
The disease affects the circulatory system, which increase the risk of blood clots to sensitive areas such as the brain.
High Blood Pressure:
This occur because, the disease affects the circulatory system.
Blindness:
This disease prevents the flow of blood to the tiny arteries and capillaries of the eye. When blood cannot get to these cells, they eventually die causing blindness.
Kidney disease.
Nervous system damage.
Amputations.
Dental disease.
WAY OUT OF DIABETES
Despite all the complications of diabetes, there are several ways through which we can battle diabetes and win. These includes the following:
Through good Nutrition.
Through Exercise.
Through weight loss.
Through the help of natural supplements.
NUTRITION
The nutritional aspect of handling diabetes covers three major areas of nutrition: .
Reducing diets rich in carbohydrates which are easily converted into STARCH.
Reducing diets rich in protein which are easily converted into SATURATED FAT.
Increase the in-take of FIBER, which can be gotten from vegetables and fruits.
Diet low in starch:
A diabetic patient should be conscious of foods with high starch content. It is when starch is hydrolysed by acid that it is converted into glucose which in turn increases the blood sugar level. A diabetic patient should be careful with the following foods:
All kinds of millet, rice, white and wheat bread,
corn flakes, root and tubers, which include, yam, irish & sweet potato, macaroni, spaghetti and other flour products, corn and its products, oats, honey, ice cream, pastries and sugar cane. etc.
If you are diabetic, you should either eat these foods very rarely or avoid them completely. Most of these foods are quickly converted into glucose and enter the blood stream much faster, and then raises your blood sugar level. It has a high glycemic index
Diet low in protein:
This has to do with getting rid of the animal product we eat. Animal products consist of meat, poultry, fish, and dairy products such as milk, cheese and eggs. °
The primary cause of adult on-set diabetes is not sugar, although sugar aggravates the problem. It is not that the pancreas is not producing enough insulin; the problem is caused by the saturated fat gotten from the animal products. The fat is coating the cells and not allowing the insulin to break through to the insulin receptors within the cell. When you remove the fat from your diet, the fat melts off the cells, then the insulin which the body is naturally producing starts to work fine. If you will do this, your cells will actually recover. Also note that soyabean product is a good substitute for animal protein. You can get all kinds of products from soyabean such as cheese, milk, soya powder etc. Avoid animal products.

Diabetes is a problem which has effected my family members for years and health and diet is something I'm very interested in and spend a lot of time gaining knowledge about. This post is brilliant, many people believe its just the high sugar intake which causes diabetes but as you stated high amounts of fat in your diet alongside a high sugar intake causes diabetes. Great post and hopefully those who struggle with diabetes are helped by the post!
