Hello to all my dear Steemians, in this post I would like to make known an issue that I think is very interesting and that in terms of conservation of the planet, recycling and good use of resources, we should not stop instructing us .
Well, I also believe that humanity is in a race in which, it has lost a lot of ground in front of its opponent, pollution and destruction.
And this without mentioning the impressive decrease in electricity and heating costs, referring to the issue of geothermal energy.
But let's talk a little about the subject so that we understand more.
What is Geothermal?
Geothermal is a branch of geophysical science that is dedicated to the study of the thermal conditions of the Earth. The word is of Greek origin, derived from "geos" which means earth, and "thermos" which means heat: the heat of the earth. It is used interchangeably to designate both the science that studies the internal thermal phenomena of the planet and the set of industrial processes that try to exploit that heat to produce electrical energy or heat useful for a stove.
What is Geothermal energy?
Geothermal energy is a renewable energy12 obtained through the use of natural heat from the interior of the earth that is transmitted through hot rock bodies or reservoirs by conduction and convection, where processes of interaction of fluids and rocks are generated, giving rise to geothermal systems.
Geothermal Energy in Industry
Geothermal water can have various uses in the industry, apart from the fact that at the time when water or geothermal heat is used directly less electricity is necessary. By using geothermal water directly, energy is conserved and the polluting energy resources are replaced by cleaner ones.
The main forms of non-electrical use of geothermal energy are direct uses and geothermal heat pumps. The direct uses of geothermal waters range from 10 to 130ºC and are used directly from the land: sanitary, spas, crops in greenhouses during the snowfall period, reduce the growth time of fish, crustaceans, etc., several uses industrial such as pasteurization of milk, heating and cooling installation in industrial buildings, hotels, entire districts and individual houses.
When geothermal energy is used for air conditioning and sanitary hot water of enclosures, whether industrial buildings, hotels, schools, museums, sports centers, housing ... solar thermal energy is a great support because, with its contribution of sanitary hot water and heating, reduces the effort of the geothermal heat pump by optimizing its performance.
And, by complementing it with a photovoltaic installation we can compensate the electrical consumption of the heat pump, being able to speak then of air conditioning with zero emissions and zero consumption.
Geothermal Energy for the Home.
Geothermal at low temperature is used to obtain energy for domestic use, consisting of extracting or transferring heat from the earth by means of probes, carried out at a depth between 50 and 200 meters, by means of a closed circuit collection, formed by polyethylene pipes. High strength, filled with a liquid with a high energy exchange capacity.
The action of a pump of impulsion in the bottom of the perforation and another bomb of heat located in building causes that the liquid in the interior of the tubes is in continuous movement.
In winter the heat of the soil is transferred to the interior of the house and in summer the process is reversed by transferring the heat of the house to the land. The action is simple, the geothermal pumps take advantage of the energy stored in the subsoil, be it earth, rock or underground water, by means of a solution, the underground collector absorbs the energy of the sounding and transfers it to the pump. In winter the system captures heat from the ground by heating the house through the radiators or the radiant floor and hot water supply, and in summer the process is reversed, the heat is transferred to the land, getting the cooling of the house.
Geothermal heat pumps do not need combustion so they do not emit CO2.
The dimensioning of the equipment is a very important step for the correct functioning of the system. You have to take into account, not only the type of housing but also the climatic conditions and properties of the land.
Advantages of the use of Geothermal Energy in the Home
• It has the possibility of generating heat, cold and hot water with the same system.
• It is a safe and inexhaustible energy.
• It does not need to be stored.
• The saving that is, compared to conventional systems, is up to 75%, so although the initial investment is higher, it is recovered in a short time.
• It occupies little space, in general less than half a square meter of the surface.
• Does not require special care.
• It does not need chimneys or ventilation, because it does not make any combustion.
• The use of geothermal energy implies the exemption of the installation of thermal solar panels.
• It has a reduced electricity consumption necessary to operate its components (pump, compressor ...)
• Daily use is simple.
• It has a long lifespan (between 25 and 30 years)
• It is independent of external weather conditions.
• Energy production can be maintained 365 days a year, 24 hours a day, a feature that makes it stand out from the rest of renewable energies.
There is no doubt that this proposal, of clean and renewable energy, is an opportunity for growth and development for the human race, taking an evolutionary leap and demonstrating to ourselves, that we can work in harmony with our environment, it is also true that the geothermal energy in our homes is not a cheap project, to make a first investment, but in the long run it will bring its benefits.
Without further ado, I say goodbye to all the people, who have time to read these lines.
Atte.
