Researchers from the University of Aalto (Finland) and Amherst College (USA) have created a synthetic magnetic monopole using a Bose-Einstein condensate at temperatures close to absolute zero.

Wow! I was chocked by this! And I had to dig further. You may actually want to add this source to your references. This is the documentation related to the above fact. It is really a cool news!
