Five people died during the last night in Poland as a result of the cold, with temperatures below 20 degrees Celsius below zero in some areas of the country, according to police sources reported today.
There are already 58 deaths from cold since last November, mostly alcoholics and beggars because of the ice creams found in makeshift shelters in marginal areas.
Since last Friday, Poland suffers a wave of Siberian cold that can be expected over the next few days.
The police have asked the population to help the homeless to avoid more deaths, and immediately notify the authorities so that they can be transferred to one of the authorized shelters.
The low temperatures have forced a reinforcement of the police operation of control of uninhabited houses, lots and parameters to locate indigents. EFE
