LIGHTING SYSTEM: LEDs Must Read Danger by @samest

in steemstem •  6 years ago  (edited)

Good day colleague. Here come again some important notification on an electrical system. On this article, I will dwell more on the lighting system, but if you have been my follower you remembered sometimes ago I shared detailed information on Light Emitting Diode Bulbs. In my review then, incandescence, halogen and fluorescence bulbs operations to LED bulbs were shared. For study read Is your lighting system affecting your sight? by @samest

LEDs as modern initiative when discussion of the lighting system is ongoing has on the actual facts contributed positively to the environment.

As a scientist, eñgineer, electrician or student let me ask you this question.

You think you know a lot about the world of LEDs?

Oh really! I tell you, this may surprise you when you read deep down due to my study and experience I have some interesting facts and statistics that you probably didn't know. Enjoy your reading

  • LEDs help us Absorb Nutrients

Do you know conventional light? This is light with wire filament. Examples are halogen bulbs, incandescent bulbs. All these bulbs have the ability to emit ultraviolet rays. While conventional and natural light sources emit ultraviolet rays, LEDs do not. Why is this a big deal? Well, when it comes to our food, these UV rays decrease nutrient levels, particularly in fruits and vegetables. So LED lighting in such places as supermarkets or kitchens means more vitamins and minerals in our food. Also, since LEDs do not give off heat, they should also help keep food fresher longer.

  • LEDs Help Students Learn

Recent studies have found that LED lighting not only improves student’s concentration and behavior in the classroom, but it also significantly improves their test scores. A series of standardized tests were given to students before and after new LED lighting systems were installed. The results? Students scored 25% better. Research has also shown that LED lighting helps prevent students with autism from suffering the headaches, eyestrain, and nausea that can be caused by the sub-visible flicker of direct fluorescent lighting.

  • LEDs Can Save Your Horse’s Life

If you live in the city, it may never have crossed your mind, but horses and their riders are often in danger of being in an accident after it gets dark. The solution? Specially made horse “Tail Lights” made with strips of LEDs that attach directly to the horses’ tails. Combined with a CPU and battery pack, they provide up to 15 hours of high visibility.

This validate safety for the rider on a long journey of over 10hours

  • They’re Getting Smaller and Smaller

LEDs were already tiny, but earlier this year they got even thinner. A team of scientists from the University of Washington recently built what they call the “thinnest possible LEDs.” How thin? They are only three atoms thick. That is more than ten times thinner than standard LEDs.

  • LEDs Extend the Shelf Life of Meat

According to research at Kansas State University, using LED lights in refrigeration units extends the shelf life of many beef products. LEDs lead to a slower discoloration process in meat, and since consumers discriminate against meat that’s discolored, much of that meat has to be discounted or thrown away. Switching from fluorescent lighting to LEDs could save the meat industry and grocery stores millions of dollars each year.

  • You Can Use Them to Decorate Your Walls

That’s right, manufacturers are now embedding LED lights into some of their wallpaper designs to add flair and ambiance. It probably won’t show up in your local home improvement story any time soon, but there are options available online — and most of them are customizable.

  • They’re Being Used to Prevent Crime

For some time now, experts have been divided on whether the use of LED street lights helps reduce crime. Data, however, is beginning to show positive results. In Los Angeles for example, the rate of crime has dropped in a number of areas since LEDs street lamps were installed, including a 13% drop in vehicle theft, a 9% drop in burglaries and a 16% drop in vandalism over a four-year period. A number of other cities, including Oakland and Atlantic City, are switching to LED lighting and hoping for similar results.

Also in Nigeria especially Lagos State, the governor announced sometimes in March 2018 how crime has dropped by 70% and he mentioned installation of street lighting in some bus terminals, streets, and bus-stops.

  • These captions are some of LEDs advantage we enjoyed. On the other hand, another review shows how LEDs can double cancer risk and this serves as a warning to everyone. Careful go this important and a very short information I will submit now.*

Having the understanding that most of the modern street lights have been switched to LED and benchmarking it with the halogen/incandescence in relation to running and light emission, LED is very cheap to run and this result in very lower emission. In the review, it shows that not all LEDs double the risk of cancer but its the belief that the blue light emitted by the LEDs may affect the hormone levels as a result of disruption the blue light emitted can cause to the body's circadian rhythm.

From the study of cancer effect via reading, I understood breast and prostate cancer are hormone-related.

What's blue light?

This is simply a range of visible light spectrum emitted especially by white LEDs light and there are some other devices that do that also. Example of such devices is a tablet, phone, and TV screens.

This blue light has one of the highest-energy and shortest wavelength and the exposure to this light decreases the secretion and production of melatonin hormone.

This review has raised many questions in people mind. Questions like:

  • Does LEDs as a street lights damage eyes?

  • My house lights are all LEDs, is this less dangerous than street lighting?

  • How can street lights affect anyone?

Do you think people, community, country needs to stop LEDs as street lights, LEDs at home and in our environment to reduce cancer and other health-related issue discussed?

My today article ends with questions and your comment will activate the next review I will submit later

Thanks for reading and don't forget to drop your comment.

Yours Sincerely,
Engr. Samest

I'm very interested in 5g and LEDs and smart citiesibm-ericsson-module.jpg

I have a skeptical view of it all. You seem to have positive attitude about the LEDs so I have to give an upvote for this issue. Thanks . I'll check into this further.
