Get incentives for promoting STEM on Steem

in steemstem •  6 years ago  (edited)

The last 10 days have been hectic for SteemSTEM, with the beta release of its App steemstem.io and the deployment of a witness (@stem.witness) and a Seed Node (159.69.58.17:2001 or seed.steemstem.io:2001).

However, we did not stop there, as many steps remain until our grand goal of building a unique science communication ecosystem on the Steem blockchain is achieved.

The next step in our expansion is to bring research institutes, researchers and well-known science bloggers to communicate research results and information directly on Steem, without the need to utlize any intermediate platform.

In order to position Steem for playing such a significant role for science communication (through the SteemSTEM project), it is crucial that SteemSTEM becomes economically sustainable, allowing us to fund our next steps and continue expansion.

A CALL FOR SUPPORTERS

We are therefore making a call for supporters who would like to get into the SteemSTEM project by delegating a fraction of their shares, and who could hence contribute to render Steem a better home for Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics.

As an incentive, SteemSTEM has begun sharing 65% (on average, when integrated over time) of its weekly curation rewards with all its benefactors, split proportionally to their invested/delegated STEEM. An extra 20% of the curation rewards is also split between the SteemSTEM managers, curators, PR team members and honor members for their work with the remaining 15% staying with @steemstem. The reward distribution and accounting will be transparently displayed and can be followed on @steemstem.pay.

We plan to further expand these benefactor rewards in the future as additional revenue streams become available (through planned expansion/developments via steemstem.io).

Make sure to follow us and watch out for even more updates to come!

Go SteemSTEM GO! I am sure this changes the whole game!

We hope people will view our project as one with long term potential. Delegating to and supporting steemSTEM is not really delegating to its current form, it's a show of support for it's longer term plans and vision. It is the opportunity to enable that vision to come to life, and enable the generation of larger rewards in the future. And one which will come with the promise of returns for enabling the projects next steps.

No matter what we do, we will be unable to compete with the immediate profit margins of bidbots, etc and as we are not in a competing space with those projects we don't aspire to. We can only continue to work to build long term value both for those who support us now, and all others who hold steem.

As always thanks for your support and enthusiasm for our goals, plans and project @elear.

I hope so too. We have a vision and we are trying to share it as largely as possible. JTM has already said everything. He was faster ;)

I only want to emphasize that we are aiming do some good here, and we know make a call to people to participate to this: supporting us and contributing in helping us to share knowledge better and in a novel way. Profit is secondary and building value, on the long run, is primordial.

Let's see where this will bring us. In any case, thanks again for your support! :)

I'm putting an eye on @steemstem since a while... I think we will do something together in the future, because I'm working with many educational centers and many of them related to Science so...who knows! 1+1

Agreed! Let's have a chat on discord one of these days!

Sure... this week I'm driving crazy trying to finish some Steem project ;) but next week for sure I'll contact you.

Please reach out to us on discord! Would love to hear some of your ideas and chat a bit!

This is a significant step forward; well done!
I may start writing again!

If you would like to reach out to science bloggers, then try https://www.science20.com/
I used to write there, and they pay from advertising income, so the authors are used to some kind of paying model that is not a contract with one of the larger science blog networks.

It is a bit early but yes, added to the list. I am happy to see you back. So many constructive comments (ko two so far) from you today :)

It's definitely time I started delegating. It might be a drop in the bucket, but the bulk of my SP is yours :)

You may want to consider linking to a page that explains how to delegate. This was my first time and hopefully it'll be many others as well.

Many drops form an ocean! Thanks for your generous contributions. I will immediately add a postscriptum at the end of the post. Please give me 5 seconds :)

After being away from Steemit for a few months, I logged back on to see what's been going on, and saw this post. You guys have been busy! This project sounds very exciting. I especially like the end goal, because publishers exert a stranglehold on the publication of scientific research, taking all of the monetary rewards for themselves (and leaving nothing for researchers and peer reviewers).

Beside the fact that the current system for publishing research rewards the middleman, it also tends to stifle the spread of scientific discoveries across the planet. The publishers severely restrict distribution, forcing college libraries to spend millions of dollars each year for access.

The goals of steemstem.io appear to challenge the "old way." If I'm reading these posts correctly, does the group intend to create an open-source style access to new research, making it free to all? And perhaps use the blockchain cryptocurrency as a way to distribute some economic rewards to the original authors and peer reviewers?

We are not aiming to replacing the publishing companies. We focus instead to strengthen science communication and popularization by giving incentives to researchers to write in layman terms about what they are doing and providing the information on Steem. This is a different story compared with what you suggest.

Changing the way research publishing works is actually on-going, with some fields being (much much much more in advanced than others. Publishers have also started to change their way of working. It is still not clear to me what could be the role of Steem here. There were discussions on that in the past (you can check the pevo project for instance) and the way SteemSTEM evolves may retrigger them in the future. However, oe step at a time :)

Very good. Thanks for the clarification, @lemouth. I might have to resume blogging again. I frequently run across research papers that are fairly interesting, and it's fun writing up summaries that put things into layman's terms and also show how each discovery fits into the "big picture."

Feel free to do that. We are encouraging many things at SteemSTEM, and especially what you propose.

I delegated 8.4% of my stake to you.
Definitely worth it! :)

We appreciate your support, thank you.

Thanks a lot! Every move counts here, and is appreciated!

Does steemstem support historical content ?

Yes, though it doesn't fit in STEM. Historical content needs a home somewhere and we are happy to help.

Happy to hear that , I've been searching high and low for some curation projects for historical content but so far I had no luck.

Just make sure to use the #steemstem tag so it gets noticed by curators.

I have my eye on @calatorulmiop anyway :D

This is a good idea. It would be great to bring new knowledgeable users to Steem.
I'll do whatever I can to support this project.

Thanks Olivier! Any support is gladly welcome.

I've completed an initial (small) delegation.
Best of luck with the project!

Thanks for your support :)

i support the initiative

Glad to read this!

Thank you.

This is really a great idea

Let's see whether it works.

Thanks for the information.

With pleasure!

It can only get better.
Go steemSTEM!!

SteemSTEM to the moon 🚀🚀

I love these little rockets :)

They're headed for the moon... with SteemSTEM on-board :D

I hope they have a little room for me. I always dreamt about traveling to the moon.

Sure they have rooms for everyone :p
We're mooning together :D

Poor moon, being invaded by so many humans :D

Great!

Yes I think so to, but I am biased.

Supporting!

Thanks pangoli!

And how excatly can I support you? Delegate to @steemstem or @steemstem.pay ?

@steemstem, the pay account is just how rewards are subsequently distributed. Thanks!

I always trailed, thinking it's better than delegating since you get the extra vote there as well (or is it the same?) .. Now I'm thinking I should delegate let's say 250SP and lower the trailing % a bit.

In general, what are the pros and cons of each (trailing and delegating), both to steemSTEM and to the person doing the delegating/trailing?

Having a big delegation for @steemstem is connected to the visibility of the project. The curation rewards go to steemstem in this case, whereas to the users otherwise. Note that for users with a small SP number, I recommend trailing to ensure to have enough RC.

By sharing the curation rewards, we (try to) incentive the users to delegate and get something in return. By front-running everyone else with @steemstem, they may get smth similar (+/-).

i am little new here especially to steemstem, can you tell how can i post in steemstem, do you charge any fees ?

No fees, we have quality guidelines that people need to follow. For more info please visit the steemSTEM discord

Ok thanks I will chat with you in discord.

Welcome to SteemSTEM! Feel free to come back to us if you have any question! We can ask our mentor crew to take care of you for your first steps with us.

another good initiative by @steemstem, im gonna delegate part of my SP to support the good work. kudos to the team.

Restemed for greater visibility

Thanks a lot to you and your generous proposition (and resteem0!

Just delegated 100 SP and 150 more coming next Sunday!

Keep it up, guys <3

Thanks a lot for your generous contribution!

I am quite new in Steem. Hopefully I will get more experience by following people like you, who shares useful and important information !

Feel also free to reach us out on discord. We will be happy to help you with your first steps here.

Steemstem.pay has been busy dishing out steem like its going out of fashion :) Awesome initiative I must confess. Let's see how the reposition favours steemstem with the great efforts on the roll.

We can discuss is offline if you want. I have a vague idea that I won't share before a week or so ^^

I'm on discord :D

Great article do follow thanks nice

Thanks

Most welcome

You are welcome.

Thanks most welcome

This is really a huge step to take... it won’t only promote steamstem or benefit us economically... it will also bring science bloggers, promoters and researchers together... it’s also a platform that will help people share their views on science and enlighten the society on a better understanding about science...which is a huge step to development.

awesome!

Indeed!
