SteemSTEM Distilled #113

in steemstem •  5 years ago

As a consequence of our third anniversary, our 113rd distilled of the best content posted last week on SteemSTEM is delayed. But patience helping, here we go! And at the end, Wednesday is less than 2 sigmas away from Monday. So... :)

For those who do not know what SteemSTEM is, please take a look here or pass by on Discord or on the Steem Chat.

DARPA Seeks Brain-Machine Communication Systems for Active Service Robots

Have you ever dreamed about communicating with a machine directly from your thoughts? @rycharde discussed this topic, detailing the issue of the machine reading attenuated brain signals correctly, so that it could interpret them in the right way. From there, the story is still long as communication should be two-ways. Here again, progresses have been made. Feel free to pass by the post for more information.

Medical complication: induced by Vitamin K antagonist

Anti-coagulent drugs are very useful in specific cases, as they allow for a good blood circulation. However, as any drug, they may have adverse effects as severe as skin lesions. In a very nice post, @anaestrada12 gives us a nice summary on blood coagulation, anti-coagulents and presents a real clinical case. Beware of the pictures (in short, please avoid reading the post during lunch).

Thank you for another edition of Distilled. This, and a birthday celebration...very industrious. As usual, I review the articles to see what gems I might have missed. Interesting how some of the same authors seem to regularly turn out topnotch pieces.
Kudos to all of them.

I have restarted the distilled series at edition 96 or 97 (I think). From this moment, I actually collect information on who is featured. I have somehow my list ;) Maybe I should release it for the writeup of the 20th distilled since I started to monitor this series?

Note that I try to have a rotation in the featured authors (we can't put @abigail-dantes in the top two every week ;) ). At least as much as possible.

😆

Ps: I always look forward to finding out which post is going to be picked! And sometimes I even have a little "bet" with myself as I read the posts. I go like "this one will be featured in the top two this week!" :D

Please prepare your bet for tomorrow... ;)

Got 1/2 right this week! :D Not too bad !! :P

I don't envy you the task of choosing featured articles. As you probably know, I used to teach. One of my most challenging chores was to reward merit and yet make everyone (who tried) feel valued. Abigail is tops...but she knows that. We know that. However, I believe she likes everyone (who tries) to feel valued.

I think you have a great community here, and we all feel valued :)

I prefer it to be hard than too easy (but lack of choice). At least it shows that SteemSTEM is alive :)

SteemSTEM is alive...definitely. Hard work paid off.

It's a beautiful surprise for me to appear here. I honestly didn't expect it! it's the first time that a publication of my authorship is mentioned in steemstem. I feel very grateful and honored by such a nice mention, this is very motivating. Thanks to all the steemstem curators, especially Carlos for being a great mentor to me and guiding me through everything related to steemstem. Thank you @lemouth for being a great leader of this community, your work is very valuable here.

I am happy, thank you, thank you, thank you.

I am glad to read that appearing in the distilled made you happy. Please see this as a sign of recognition for your contribution to our community. We are happy to have you with us (as well as your images of real cases ;) ).

Thank you so much for appreciating my work. :)

Thank you for the mention.. Amazing place for everyone who love science..
