SteemSTEM Distilled #38

in steemstem •  7 years ago

Welcome to the 38th issue of SteemSTEM Distilled, a curation effort by the members of the @steemstem team.

SteemSTEM is a community driven project which seeks to promote well-written and informative Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics posts on Steemit. The project involves curating STEM-related posts through upvoting, resteeming, offering constructive feedback, supporting scientific contests, and other related activities.

For more details, a recent update on the steemSTEM can be found here, and a not so recent one there. Moreover, if you ask yourself about what it means to be part of steemSTEM, please check here.

Our team scours the platform for original and quality content.

After working through thousands (literally!) of STEM-related posts and upvoting more than 150 that we deemed to be worthy, we proudly present you our top 8 handpicked choices for this Thursday-Sunday period.

A few words about the nomination process

For the sake of transparency we feel we need to clarify how our nomination process works; each issue is compiled by certain members of the SteemSTEM community. This week's editorial team was comprised of @ruth-girl.

The editorial team chooses their favorite posts for the week and each issue is the result of their joined effort. In order to keep the process fair, posts written by the editorial team are excluded from the nomination process.

Don't be discouraged if you didn't make it on this issue. The competition is harsh and there is always a next time :) In the meantime, you may wish to check these guidelines for extra tips on how your writing can be more effective.

Authors That Received a Curie Upvote by the SteemSTEM Team

In the same spirit of being transparent about our actions that are now supported by @curie, we will release every week a list of authors who have caught the attention of the @steemstem curation team.

If you want to discuss this with us, please do not hesitate to join the steemSTEM discord server or to follow our curation trail (just ask us for more information on the chat for details).

From March 25 to April 1, we rewarded 158 different authors who have written a total of 222 different articles. The authors who received both a @steemstem and a @curie vote that week are:

Great job again by @ruth-girl.
Seems like Ruth-girl has become a team of her own, lol. She makes a good team with herself. :D

Big congrats to all the featured authors and those that got the steemstem vote.
Steemstem rocks!

Hehe! I make a good writing team with myself, but it's the team work of all the curators that makes this thing work. The distilled is only the tip of the iceberg :)

Thank you for always supporting SteemStem @samminator! :D

Another beautiful selection of posts!
Interesting to me mostly are the bacteria detection and the bird navigation ones
Great effort steemSTEM team !

It's nice to hear you enjoyed our picks @mcfarhat! :)

What an honor to be mentioned again! Congrats to all the other featured authors, and thanks to the community for stepping up a notch and making steemstem even better. Cheers!

You have done such great work! You've earned it! :)

Thank you, I really appreciate it!! Cheers!

See you around @lesshorrible! ^_^

Congrats to all handpicked authors and curators for their efforts!! Please keep up the quality work!!

Great job as always @ruth-girl!

Thank you my lord! :)

We all work hard to keep this community alive!

Its again an honor to be featured. Thanks @ruth-girl for your curation efforts!

It would be a shame to leave your great work out ;)
Thank you!

Kudos to @ruth-girl for another job well done.
Congrats to the selected authors and thanks and welldone to the steemstem management.

Steemstem is the best

Thank you! A lot of people try hard to make all this work! :)

I am amazed with the amount of users we have curated waoooo :O

I know! The community is getting bigger and bigger!! :D

Much of this growth is due to you :)

And you and all of us! ;)

:D thanks

Big thumbs up @Ruth-Girl (and thanks for featuring my article!).

As usual, great work authors and a big thank you to our tireless curator's.

Your article (and series) was very good. It was well deserved in my opinion.
I would like to see more and more people getting access to a telescope venue at least. I will dig around to see if anyone here in my community is motivated by your articles.
We have something that's called "museum night" and involves all the museums being opened for 24H for free, including the observatories. The influx of people is high during that night but it subsides afterwards. I am hoping that some people "stay" with the science. It's on 19'th of May and it's by far the most popular cultural event in Romania.

Well, you can say I have a thing for space topics, but we try to keep it balanced :P

Thank you for your great work! :)

Well done to everyone!! Those featured authors deserved to be here!! :)

Congrats to all authors who made Steemstem distilled #38, nice pick @ruth-girl, you just get better at this by the day :) .

Great job everyone for making such a great community, SteemSTEM all the way. 👏

Yay! They were all worth it! Thank you! :)

Wow, we got a community for science content? That is cool! Luckily this post appears on the science tag when I was browsing through. Congratulations to people who have been upvoted by @steemstem!

You should browse through the #steemstem tag as well, there's some excellent stuff in there! Also, anyone can get upvoted, so long as they meet the guidelines for steemSTEM, so if you're interested in blogging about science, you definitely should!

Yeah, I just finished reading through 3 of the articles mentioned in the post. Thank you @mountainwashere for the information. I'm definitely going to use the tag if I produce STEM-related articles in the future.

Steemstem is meant to promote STEM content on Steemit. It was founded almost 2 years ago by lemouth and justtryme90 and we've been growing ever since :)

You can always go through the #steemstem tag and read wonderful authors that write quality posts or even join the discord server if you want to "meet" some of them as well :)

Oh, I've heard about Discord. I will make sure to check it out later. Thanks, @ruth-girl.

Hi @conficker! Welcome to steemit!
Please use this link for the SteemSTEM discord channel.
Regarding discord you can check out a few tips for beginners
I am on my way to your blog, great to have you hear @conficker!

You have been incredibly beautiful and you have a very important talk with everyone, thank you very much for it.

Oooh, you are incredibly beautiful too! Thank you!

Thanks for this recognition!

Thank you for your great work! :)

Comment has been edited: @ruth-girl you are the illest. You make me proud with your integrity and good sportsmanship.

Well done @tkappa, please try to engage more with the community, I can see less engagement from your ends, you should also know that upvotes by steemstem is a privilege and not a birthright. Thanks.

By commenting, upvoting and resteeming members posts, joining us via discord here is not also a bad idea.

I'm not a curator, so can't speak for them, but your money history post wasn't tagged as steemstem, so that's why it wasn't noticed.

Aaaaaa, so #steemstem has to be included as a tag regardless? Never realized that. Still, Candy Jones and the Dysteleological Argument (if that ain't steemstem material then I really don't know what is) include steemstem as a tag. All I know is that steemstem voted for me quite often but not anymore and I haven't changed my style or something. Again, if I am doing something wrong I need to know so I can fix it.

I'm also not a curator and can't speak for them, but I'd guess that the Candy Jones article falls more into the category of history rather than science. Its still a very intriguing and well-written article.

Thanks

You can bring this up in discord if you want. There are a lot of amazing mentors that could answer your questions.

I will.

Great 😊

The tag is not mandatory, but it helps us to find your post.

Also, note that we are voting STEM posts and not only science posts. History is thus fine, in contrast to what has been said :)

All I know is that steemstem voted for me quite often but not anymore and I haven't changed my style or something. Again, if I am doing something wrong I need to know so I can fix it.

To what I know, you have not done anything wrong. I would say: bad luck here.

Also, please remove the links. The distilled is not the place for people to self-advertise themselves. If you have a complaint, please go to our discord server (there is a room for that).

  ·  7 years ago (edited)

I have no complaints or questions anymore. I now know what's wrong. And I didn't post the links for self-advertise but to make a point. You are right...the problem is bad luck. I have it all my life following me ;-)

I see people here have run to the "rescue" :P

I'll give my opinion on what might be wrong:
a) topic
b) tagging
c) copyrighted images
d) lack of engagement
e) use of bidding bots
f) heavy curators' workload that might lead to "missing" posts

Don't forget, all this work is done manually by human beings. If, in any case, anyone feels "neglected" or "undervalued" or if you think another author deserves more attention, we'd be happy to hear you in the complaints room of our discord server (mentors and curators are there for all of you) :)

Ohhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh! You are picking the topics for steemstem? Alright my bad for even asking!

I am one of the many curators on board ;)

Posts are voted after discussion and team work :)

congratulations to those who were selected!
Job well done @ruth-girl

Together, we make steemSTEM great.

Thank you @rhaphelle! Like you said, we do it together! We all need to invest time and energy to help the steemstem community grow bigger!

😊🌸

Yet another great work by @ruthgirl. I always concur with her selections, she always chooses the best. At this rate, even the blind can see that steemstem is already on her way to the top.

There are just so many others, but the seats are limited :(
We just hope we can make it up for them in the posts to come ;)

This is a great way to get some good posts out there! Way to go

Congrats to all the authors who have been working so hard on creating a wonderful articles.

Thank you for the reward, it's an honor to be part of steemstem!

The pleasure is ours! :)

Kudos to @ruth-girl for doing a great job and steemSTEM family

This community is the best.

The whole team works hard to get you just a small sample in our distilled posts :)
Thank you @whytepresh!

Thumbs up to the whole team!!! And I appreciate the small sample as you called it

You're welcome...always

Congratulations to all the selected writers. Well deserved. Well done @ruth-girl. Awesome job as usual.

What would I do without #steemstem? I would probably be writing engineering poems:) Awesome community.

Engineering poem? that sounds great to me!

Well, I used to write short stories and poems before I found steemstem, if you can believe it. Now, I don't know how to write stories no more. :)

Hahaha lol

Engineering poems don't sound that bad :P
But steemstem posts are way better... Haha!

Thank you @churchboy! :)

I guess I will have to give it a shot! Thanks a lot for replying.

There is nothing wrong with experimenting and having fun ;)

See you around @churchboy! :)

Do you want to engineer poems? :D

Yaaay! A new steemstem distilled, I will have things to read today :D

This should keep you occupied until Thursday when the next issue comes out :P

Thanks to all the members of #steemSTEM for extending their support on my article. It is really a great honor always and congratulations to all the other selected authors as well for presenting such extraordinary articles. :)

Thank you for these kind words! :)

It's my pleasure!! :)

Hey, I really love your initiative and what you are doing here on steemit! I have been following some content posted in #steemstem lately and as a Public health student, I figured, why not attempt to write a steemstem post myself??

I recently had a paper due in one of my classes -Infectious diseases of the developing world- so I decided to write up a comprehensive report on Zika virus.

If you are able and have the time to do so, please consider taking a look and also help me out by resteeming if you think it is worthy, so more eyes are able to see my hard work!! Thanks so much, you are greatly appreciated here!!

Cheers & STEEM on!!

Hello there! Just some friendly advice, as you can see for yourself, people don't leave their personal links here. This series' goal is to "promote" worthy authors who got upvoted by @steemstem and bring more discussion over their posts.

If you tag your work as #steemstem, curators will eventually notice it. Also, if you want to become known and appreciated within the community, you can join us on discord or simply browse over the tag, read, upvote and comment on other steemstemers' work.

We'd be happy to see you join us actively.

Have a nice day! :)

Ok thanks for the word of advice. Obviously, this was my first time giving steemstem a try, so I was unaware of the fact that this was not okay to do. I will learn from this and try my best to become more active in the steemstem community because I really love what is going on here, that's for sure!!

Again, my apologies for this inconvenience.. I now, of course, know that this is not an appropriate measure to take :)

Please remove the link to your post. As said in the other comment, the distilled is not the place where people can self-advertise themselves. Thanks in advance for your understanding. If you have a complaint (like n ot being voted), we have a complaint room on our discord server :)

Gotcha, didn't know this, as this was my first time giving steemstem a go. I will take this knowledge and use it for the future, where hopefully I can get some attention from the steemstem community.

Have a good one mate

Thanks for your understanding ^^

Of course, & it is my apologies... This whole thing is a learning experience as you go, you learn from your mistakes, move along, and then utilize those past mishaps to the best of your advantage.

I hope to begin becoming more active in and around the steemstem community because I see there is a lot being offered, and I think I can help contribute to what is being done here. Again, my apologies for the original inconveniences which may have arose from this.

Appreciate your feedback and what you are doing for the steem(it) community.
Cheers from @conradsuperb

Thanks a lot, once again. We are just a bunch of people also doing our best here :)
