Act I, Scene x
LOCATION: The Palace gardens.
GIOVANNI is seen in the gardens with the friar, pacing back and forth with nervousness and worry.
The Friar is looking sternly at Giovanni while holding a Bible. After a few moments of this, Giovanni releases his frustration and directs his song to the heavens.
Pleasures of this World
GIOVANNI:
THE PLEASURES OF THIS WORLD
CAN'T MATCH THE LOVE
I HAVE FOR MY SISTER
THE EUPHORIA I HAVE
CAN'T MATCH
THE DREAMS THAT I GROW INSIDE
MY LOVE
BOTH HEARTS ENTWINED
UNITED I CAN'T RECALL SUCH BEAUTY
IT LIGHTS THE DARKNESS NOW
IT SHINES A RAY OF HOPE
FATHER ALL YOUR STORIES ARE A RUSE
TO GET PEOPLE PAYING CHAPEL DUES
Friar looks sympathetic but concerned.
IT'S SUCH A SHAM
IT'S POPPYCOCK
I CAN'T BELIEVE
I BELIEVED IT
IT'S TRUE...
I'M NEW
THE PLEASURES OF THIS WORLD
I KNOW
CAN'T MATCH THE ANGEL
I CALL MY SISTER
THE EUPHORIA I HAVE
IGNITES THE FLAMES
I GROW INSIDE MY LOVE
FATHER,
LEAVE ME ALONE
AND LET ME BE
WITH MY TRUE LOVE
THE PLEASURES THAT I HAVE
I OWN
He points to himself.
AND I'LL TAKE THE SLACK
I OWN
WITH OR WITHOUT
THE POPE
BLACKOUT.
END SCENE.
