There is a new service for Steem that lets you tip people on other social media platforms.
To some this might not seem like a big deal, but to me this service is one of the best ideas I've ever seen on Steem. So far it only works on Twitter, but they'll be incorporating new platforms one by one to insure smooth transitioning.
The way that SteemTipper works is ingenious. Say you want to tip someone on Twitter. You load Steem onto a proxy Twitter account using the SteemTipper service. SteemTipper uses the Twitter API to confirm that your Twitter account is correct. You can then send a tip to someone else on Twitter by tweeting them:
I seriously can't stress enough how amazingly beneficial this service is to the Steem blockchain. Do you see what just happened? @patrick_ulrich is commanding @steemtipper to tip @joerogan 1 Steem. This means that SteemTipper goes to the proxy @patrick_ulrich Twitter account, creates a proxy @joerogan Twitter account if it doesn't already exist, and transfers 1 Steem between the two proxy accounts.
Can you see how incredible that is? This technology is going to allow Steem to invade every other social media site. Here's how I see it when you tip someone on another social media site with SteemTipper:
HEY! ...HEY! I JUST GAVE YOU FREE MONEY! COME TO STEEM AND COLLECT IT! DO YOU STILL THINK CRYPTOCURRENCY IS SPECULATIVE AND STUPID? THAT'S WHAT I THOUGHT.
This service is basically forcing people to participate on the Steem blockchain. It's going to blow people's minds when they go to collect their Steem and they are like:
This Steem blockchain thingamajig created an account in my name and gave me money? WTF?
But wait! The amazingness doesn't stop there, because these people that are getting tipped Steem don't actually have to create a Steem account to use SteemTipper. That's right! Their proxy account has already been created by the tipper. Therefore, instead of claiming their tip they can simply pay it forward by using the command:
@steemtipper tip @whoever 1
If @joerogan were to Tweet this to someone, his tip would be automatically transferred to the @whatever account without even having to make a Steem account. He wouldn't even have to look at the SteemTipper website. Also, the @whatever proxy account would then be created by SteemTipper. Everything is automated. It's brilliant. However, if someone wants to collect the Steem they will be forced to make a Steem account. Honestly though it sounds like a lot of win-win situations happening all at once.
What happens if someone doesn't collect their tip? After a week the tip is simply refunded to the tipper. This means that we can tip tons of people, full on expecting that not many people will cash them, but we still get all the advertising benefits of doing so and only have to pay out when a person actually interacts with the Steem blockchain... incredible.
In the comments there are some naysayers:
Why would anyone want to tip someone else?
This logic assumes that a tip is different than an upvote. Incorrect! An upvote and a tip are the same thing. You can easily upvote yourself or sell your vote to a bot and pay the reward forward to another social media platform. In effect, this service will allow the entire Steem community to upvote anyone they want on any platform. I seriously can't get over what an innovating idea this is.
Step by step, the Steem API is going to use it's tendrils to dig into the APIs of other platforms. This is not a new idea. I had an idea where I wanted to connect Steem to Twitch so that people could watch ads on Twitch, get paid in bits, and cash those bits out into Steem. This is clearly against Twitch Terms of Service so I got discouraged, but this idea and others like it are going to take hold and make Steem very strong, pervasive, and even invasive.
I will personally be using this service on Twitch and Facebook so that my friends and family will actually take Steem seriously. This service is a fantastic opening move to force the world to pay attention to Steem.
On a side note I never use Twitter, but I clicked on the @joerogan and his latest post was a podcast with Abby Martin. I went to school with Abby Martin... so weird... small world.
hi, have a nice day

The only thing I have to say is that 256M STEEM isnt going to be enough.
One question, can you send amounts as small as .001 STEEM? Tipping 1 STEEM could get rather costly.
