I can't say I'm a social media expert... Other than Twitter, all my other social media accounts are either closed or pretty much abandoned by now. And I only had a few of them to begin with.
So, with the "extensive" experience I have in the realm, I tend to believe Steemversary is... unique.
I started thinking of it because mine is getting closer. And I realized we seem to be the only ones celebrating our anniversary with the blockchain (platform) we use. In other places, it's all about YOUR anniversary and every friend, close or barely known, wishing you "Happy Birthday!" when you grow older.
Maybe that's a way to keep the connection going, or the conversation started, when nothing else seemed to make a difference for a year. And a way not to really remember someone's birthday, until it actually arrives. Just in case you want to make him/her a gift and be prepared for it, you know... That's of course if you rely on FB birthday notifications, for example...
Steemversary shows a deep attachment and connection with the community / ecosystem / blockchain, in my opinion.
People celebrate they've been on Steem for 1 year, 2 years, some even 3 years and soon 4 years for the really early adopters who stuck around.
Does anyone feel like celebrating they've been on Facebook for 1 year? Or 10 years? I haven't heard that. It's true I haven't payed attention, so I may be wrong. Although there might be enough who celebrate the years since they closed their FB accounts, if they keep track of that.
Often in Steemversaries authors remember how it was when they first arrived and the obstacles they managed to surpass, highlight members of the community who helped them understand how Steem works, or with whom they became close friends in time.
Other times Steemversaries are great opportunities to present achievements and failures on Steem. Plans for the future are shared as well.
Thoughts about Steem, about the community and the ecosystem and dapps, and the authors' hopes are also shared...
Am I right in thinking our Steemversary is kinda unique, or is my perception deformed by the fact that I see things mainly from one side these days?

Personally, I don't believe is something that makes a huge difference in the current stage. A service of this kind will be great when we reach the mass adoption of this blockchain.

I was not referring to a service to remind us of our steemversary (although it exists - via @steemitboard). I was thinking of our voluntary actions materialized in posts with the occasion of our steemversaries.
