Diners and Russian Lenses

I love diners. Mel's Drive In on the Sunset Strip, 101 Coffeeshop in East Hollywood and Bobs Big Boy in Burbank are some of my favorites, but Kings Highway Diner At the Ace Hotel in Palm Springs might be my new favorite.

The Art Deco screams nuclear age and the age of the car and of the open road. I love the noir feel of this place. It’s so dim and the coffee is just right.

I shoot a lot of my photographs on a set of old, Soviet era, Russian lenses. They're mostly analogs of Zeiss optics which were expropriated by the Soviet Union during the Cold War. They take excellent images and are very cheap compared to their German cousins.

Lens: Mir-24
35mm
F/2
Canon 5D III
