Stellite XTL - How To View Your Paper Wallet

in stellite •  7 years ago

First, a paper wallet is one of the most secured ways of keeping your crypto safe. It's basically a piece of paper with your public address, mnemonic seed, spend key and a view key. The public wallet address is ok to use and send your funds to while the other seeds and keys should be kept safe and private.

To download a paper wallet, go to https://stellite.cash/paperwallet.html

For the purposes of this, I'm going to provide simple instructions for Linux, specifically Ubuntu.

Part One: StelliteD

Before you can view your wallet, it is first necessary to synchronize the state of blocks in the blockchain. For linux, you will need to download the following file(s): https://github.com/stellitecoin/Stellite/releases/download/1.2.3.1/linux-x64-1.2.3.1.zip

Unpack the file. It should create a directory called, "Stellite". Open the directory. Once there, open a terminal window from that directory. At the prompt, simply type:

sudo ./stellited

If this does not work, it may be possible that you do not have the correct permissions set. To fix that, type in the terminal:

sudo chmod +x stellited

Then, type:

sudo ./stellited

Synchronization should begin.. If you do not, check your firewall or temporarily turn off. If this does not work, you need to find out if there is a problem somewhere on your network - the firewall on the router or the provider. It may take some time to complete so I would kill some time and go to http://www.tradeogre.com to buy more stellite.

Unfortunately, synchronization may take several hours (last time it took me all night). Once the synchronization is complete, you need to open a separate terminal window. Do not close the previous window with stellited running.

Part 2: The CLI Wallet

In your new terminal window, type:

sudo ./stellite-wallet-cli --generate-from-keys wallet.xtl

If this does not work, it may be possible that you do not have the correct permissions set. To fix that, type in the terminal:

sudo chmod +x stellite-wallet-cli

Then retype:

sudo ./stellite-wallet-cli --generate-from-keys wallet.xtl

From here, follow the onscreen instructions.

  • Standard address - your wallet address
  • Secret spend key - spend the key from your paper wallet
  • Secret view key - view private key from paper wallet
  • Enter new wallet password - set your wallet password
  • Confirm your password
  • Finish

Perhaps your wallet say that it is not up to date. As soon as block synchronization reaches you, everything will be fine.

Therefore, do not panic until the synchronization stops. Sometimes, with long syncs, I have to close stellited and restart it. It will pick up where it left off and continue to sync when you do this. Be patient.

Basic Commands

  • balance - shows the balance
  • refresh - update
  • show transfers - show transactions
  • transfer - usage: transfer walletyouwanttotransferto 100 (the number is obviously the number of coins)

It should be very easy to google a list of Cli wallet commands. These are just the ones most used.
