Environmental degradation....is mankind going into extinction?

Hey guys, good to be here again. Today i will be writing on ENVIRONMENTAL DEGRADATION and I'll extract some points from my personal experience.

Last week, I was on a visit to one of the streets of Lagos (Nigeria), i couldn't bear the scene my eyes were seeing, I became baffled, I almost shed tears on seeing some inhuman activities that enveloped this environment and the way we are ignorantly destroying our planet, our only home.

Our environments is deteriorating and every part of the planet has been touched by it one way or another.

The United Nations International Strategy for Disaster Reduction defined environmental degradation as the reduction of the capacity of the environment to meet social ecological objective and needs

Many may not know it, but l will say categorically that environmental degradation is one major threats facing the planets, let's put behind other forms of environmental threat or other forms of threat, environmental degradation should be treated as a matter of urgency, the disaster or calamity we bring upon ourselves through these human activities is totally irreversible, but we can avoid further degradation, hence the need to open our eyes via this article.

Factors That Contribute to Environmental Degradation

The Primary cause of environmental degradation is inititated by Activities of Human which includes:

• over population
• water pollution
• air pollution
• land pollution
• urbanization
• population growth
• deforestation
• radiation
• increase in energy use

Slow but deadly, we are killing our planet and the consequences are tremendous, tress in the forest are cut down in large quantities and processed to other materials, burning of forest, wildlife animals are forced to find new place to live, human continue to build on land, trees can no longer absorb carbon dioxide to help the biosphere, harmful chemical are released into the air everyday especially during war, natural resources are depleted.

Ways to curb/control Environmental Degradation

As I have said above, the hazards caused by our own negligence or ignorance can not be reversed, it can only be reduced. So I proffer the following solution for a sustainable and habitable planet

• community effort
• proper disposal of waste
• water conservation
• creating awareness on the danger of
  environmental degradation
• use recycled product
• deforestation should be discouraged
