Steven Universe: "Legs From Here To Homeworld"

Hot dog duffel bag! Hot dog duffel bag!

Ahem. This post will contain massive spoilers for Steven Universe, and also probably make no sense at all if you're not pretty close to caught up anyway. For those people: Steven Universe is pretty great. Start at the beginning though.

So we got a surprise web episode dropped on us this week, continuing from where were left off at what we all thought was going to be the end of Season 5. But I guess not.

The Diamonds, it turns out, can't do anything permanent to fix the insane shards. At least, Yellow and Blue and Steven can't. So now we get White Diamond, at least for a few seconds of monologue, and that's lovely and plotty and all but the real focus of this episode seems to be on Steven's legs.

Pink's legs? I'm not really sure. But where Yellow and Blue had spaceships shaped like arms, and the Cluster made a pink arm-ship to fight for Steven, apparently Pink's spaceship is a pair of high-heel-wearing legs with a rather shapely behind to connect them. Which is a little funny watching Steven try to operate, but reminded me strongly of the half-finished horse float Marty built in The Critic episode "All the Duke's Men," which probably wasn't what they were going for.

So everybody except Bismuth, who's once again the most sensible Gem, loads up into the ship and heads off to the Gem Homeworld to find White Diamond, who is predictably only interested in Steven and immediately separates them. At this point I feel like they ought to be making a plan for that since it happens every time they go anywhere.

There's a giant White Diamond head and torso on Homeworld that she apparently lives in, completing the figure. Presumably Yellow and Blue's ships will be repaired in time for them to all join together at some point.

And then White is, well, kind of a disappointment. They obviously really wanted the cliffhanger but we don't get any interaction, as she just monologues at Steven as if he were Pink, and sends him away.

Now I'm expecting some sort of Wizard of Oz set of waiting, and demanding to see White, and unsatisfactory audiences, and being asked to go kill the Wicked Witch of the West coming up next. Maybe I just think that because all of the Diamonds so far have turned out to be humbugs.

At least Connie's actually being included now. Just in time for the flying monkeys.

This was an awesome episode, I can't wait to see more about White Diamond! Her pearl is really creepy! And there is an interesting theory about it that might be true.

Great post! I wrote about this episode and the diamonds as well, I would love if you could read it! https://steemit.com/series/@dolivero/white-diamond-is-here

I really enjoy your Steven Universe writing, and you might want to have a look at this post and see if you want to drop an application: https://steemit.com/steem/@tcpolymath/apply-here-for-dolphin-support-0-300-sp-accounts

In any case I'll be following you and probably upvoting your SU content at least.

Thank you! :)

That Pearl is super-interesting. I really hope we get to learn more about Pearls at some point the way we have about Rubies and Amethysts.

(And presumably there are more Bismuths out there....)

@tcpolymath it's going over from my head .. heheh . as i don't have much knowledge abut this.
