Stirling Council are set to boost their secure cycle locker network that have been in place since 2006, after Councillor Alastair Majury made repeated enquiries about the issue on behalf of a number of cyclists.
Initially council officers confirmed that recently they had no budgets to purchase, maintain, or replace lockers. This has led to the council not promoting the secure cycle lockers. However, after Councillor Alastair Majury continued to follow up on the matter council officers have now confirmed that they will look to better utilise the secure cycle locker infrastructure that the council has, as well as to increase the number of lockers in areas of high demand. Council officers are also looking into different funding streams that the council may access to bid for more lockers, such as the Tactran Sustainable Travel Grant Scheme.
The existing 43 Lockers are rented out on an annual basis, at £25 per annum, and there are currently waiting lists for lockers at Stirling Station, Dunblane Bridge of Allan.

Local Conservative Councillor Alastair Majury said:
“I’ve received a number of enquiries from people wanting to use these lockers, especially at Dunblane and Bridge of Allan. The Council constantly promote sustainable transport so I was amazed that there were no plans to maintain and improve the network. That a waiting list exists is surely ample proof that we need more and I look forward to hearing how and when they will be provided. These cycles are often very expensive investments and if we want people to use them there needs to be secure facilities where they can be left safely."
