Dhaka Custom House's Preventive Team has recovered 12.3 kg of gold from an Indian citizen at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in Dhaka.
The Indian citizen, who was arrested on Wednesday night, was arrested on the basis of secret information from the Thai Airlines flight number TG339 from Bangkok.
Custom sources said the passenger Arshad Iaj Ahmed, age 46, home-Kolkata, West Bengal, came out early on the flight after the TG339 flight was connected to the boarding board at No 9 boarding bridge. The Customs House's Preventive Team follows the passenger and after refusing the green channel, he refuses to be questioned about the duty-taxable product for the passengers. Later, his body was searched and in presence of different agencies working at the airport, 22 gold bars were weighed in the white sketch hidden behind the waist, whose total weight was 12.3 kg. Estimated value of the gold recovered is 615 million taka.
The passenger will be handed over to the police station and in the same way the next action will be taken according to the Customs Act, 1969 and Special Power Act, 1974.
