With Google Sheets is very easy to create a Stock Watching list in minutes. With the same procedure it is possible to create a sandbox account to test your trading skills.
Besides the Stock Quotes Googlesheets provide a variety of useful data for a given quote, like the opening, closing, day max and min. From this data it is possible to generate own indicators that open interesting functionality around stock investing.
Before we go more in detail, lets start with a vary basic functionality: Display a quote and a link to a charting service:
The Stock Quote is obtained with the help of the powerful googlesheets function "googlefinance"
In our example the Stock Symbol starts in Colum A at the 5th row:
=GOOGLEFINANCE(A5)
Which display the quote (with some delay, thus it is not recommended to take this information directly for trading)
The Hyperlink to the chart is easily obtained by the Hyperlink function:
=HYPERLINK( concatenate("https://finance.yahoo.com/chart/",A5),"Link")
Of course the URL can be changed to your favorite Charting App.
Thats all!. From now on you can copy those functions and create a long watch list, simulate purchasing and selling and many other functions
