A few weeks ago, I experienced food poisoning that basically emptied my entire intestinal track out! Prior to, I had been watching my stool for color, texture, and frequency to gauge the health of my gut as well as to see if I am expelling abnormal things. It was interesting to say the least. Once I was able to eat after the food poisoning episode I decided to start by eating beets. I did that because beets will change the color of your stool. I wanted to make sure I was correct that the food poisoning cleared me out, if it had the first poop I had would be reflect the redness from the beets. Sure enough it did. This is good news! However, the bad news is, I discovered that my digestive system is extremely slow. I did not have a bowel movement until 4 days after eating the beets! Yikes! Needless to say, eating beets is a good way to track your poop movement!
Gut health is super important and you’ll want to monitor your poop while attempting to detox and heal your body. There are 7 types of stool.
Large lumps indicate constipation which can be alleviated by consuming sufficient water and fiber rich foods. Also consider an enema. I’ve considered it but have not done one yet. Lumpy sausage like stool is considered mild constipation. Use the same methods to alleviate. Sausage with cracks or smooth texture are normal poop. Rejoice when your poop has this texture. Keep eating a diet that produces such. Soft lumps with clear edges indicate the body is lacking fiber. So increase your fiber intake by eating raw green leafy veggies. Mushy and liquid stool, as we all know, is diarrhea! Consistent diarrhea is likely an issue you’d want to discuss with a health professional and get a clear understanding on.
There’s so much more to discuss on poop but for now the main goal is to get you started looking at it and using the beet method to track its movement and rate of metabolism.
Next blog will discuss herbal teas that will help with digestion issues.
