The Endangered Species Act is a 43-year-old law which has has saved the bald eagle, California condor, gray wolves, black-footed ferret, American alligator and Florida manatee from likely extinction.

On Wednesday, the Senate Committee on Environment and Public Works held a hearing to “modernize the Endangered Species Act” just as supporters of the law had feared. Republican lawmakers criticised that the federal effort to keep species from going extinct encroaches on states’ rights, is unfair to landowners and stymies efforts by mining companies to extract resources and create jobs.

Waves of support for The Endangered Species Act is also rising on social media with the hashtag of #StopExtinction and #EndangeredSpeciesAct. Environmentalists and supporters of the act believes that The Endangered Species Act is effective to stop extinction and it has kept 99 percent of protected species from going extinct.

Supporters can show support for the act by buying the Stop Extinction T Shirt available on Amazon now.
