Creating Storgs On Steem

If I asked what Steemit means to everyone reading this, there’ll be a lot of varying answers. This is a testament to the fact that Steemit actually means something to us and isn’t just a fad.

Steemit to me, is the sandbox of real life. To be honest, I never really saw it this way and like many others, I initially saw Steemit as a place to blog and earn rewards. Even though with time, I realized that there was more to Steemit than just coming to blog for rewards, I couldn’t really place my hands on what exactly Steemit is.

As the end of the year drew near, and as is the tradition, I began pondering on the entire year and all that happened during the course of the year. This was not the first time and it wasn’t like I had anything in particular but staring outside through the window from the backseat, it hit me!

Sandbox!

For those who might not have any idea what a sandbox is, I’ve copied a quote from Wikipedia below.

A sandbox is a testing environment that isolates untested code changes and outright experimentation from the production environment or repository, in the context of software development including Web development and revision control. - Wikipedia

How’s Steemit Life’s Sandbox?

A sandbox is a test environment, somewhere you’re allowed to make mistakes without breaking the entire system. In a sandbox, you’re free to test out ideas and whatever comes to your mind without any fear or holding back.

A look around the Steem ecosystem will show you different projects being tried and tested on a daily basis. There are those that failed and those that succeeded but in all, it didn’t lead to the collapse of the world.

Starting Organizations A Different Way

Curie is a project on Steemit that helps curate works of newer users thereby somewhat redistributing the Steemit wealth to people who hitherto would have had no access to it. This is a very huge service to offer. When @andrachy was describing @curie at the first edition of Steemfest in Amsterdam with @kevinwong, he said curie was essentially a legit Not For Profit organization in terms of staff strength and impact. It meant a lot to me listening to those words come out of his mouth. Curie is essentially a real life organization distributing (as at that time) over $10,000 daily but was born and nurtured within the sandbox of Steemit.

Even @sndbox was born and is being nurtured in this sandbox of the real world. Same goes for @stach, the first ever physical accelerator hub powered by Steem and @buildteam with the sports organization, @steemsports

Steemit makes it possible to start organizations in a way that’s different from the traditional methods because it allows tests to be carried out. Experimentation gives birth to some of the world’s best inventions and creations. No wonder so many lives have already been touched and blessed by this thing called Steemit.

Igniting That Leadership Flame

This is yet another miracle of Steemit especially in the part of the world where I come from. Since I can remember, we’ve always been told that we (children) are the leaders of tomorrow but it seems that the “tomorrow” has refused to show up. In a country (continent) where past leaders feel no need to let go but would rather hang on to power till death, there seems to be no light at the end of the tunnel for the younger generation.

With Steemit however, these same young ones discarded by their own country’s structure have gone on to set up the first Steemit accelerator hub in the world, a conference with participants from various parts of the country, several meetups, and speaking engagements. Communities have been formed with leaders emerging organically. Bear in mind that these “leaders” have no prior experience and many are finding themselves in this position for the very first time.

Personally I have discovered that being the first child of the family is a lot different from leading a diverse group of people. Many mistakes have been made as is normal with first timers but the truth is everyone that has tried and made these mistakes have learned from it and become better.

Without Steemit, these mistakes would have been made later in life under real circumstances with outcomes that could have been very unpleasant to us and the entire world maybe.

To prevent this from being too lengthy, I’ll stop at these two points in the hopes that you have been able to somewhat understand what I have tried to pass across. There’s a lot more to Steemit and this thing called Steemit is actually having real life impacts in the lives of ordinary people.

Whatever ideas you have, don’t be scared to try them out here on Steemit. One thing I tell people is that on Steemit, you get to eventually learn about things you had no idea of before you joined. This is why Steemit is different from other social media.

How To Use Steemit As The Sandbox Of The Real World To Create Your Own Storg

Lucky you, it doesn’t take so much to start making use of Steemit as the sandbox of the real world just as @ehiboss @ejemai @voronoi @kevinwong @cryptodrive have done/are doing. All you need do is start with the following;

  • Write a post about your ideas
  • Hold nothing back; right or wrong.
  • Be open to feedback
  • Work with others.

I am looking forward to seeing many more real world projects born and tested on the Steem blockchain. You have the idea, there’s the fund and the people you need right here. What are you waiting for?

You omitted @bania and his D-Project, I agree with you on it being a testing ground to launch the next revolutionary project or a project that wrestles control from the centralized authorities we all love to see go. Nice one. See you in 2018.

Yes @bania! How did I forget to include that?! That's a proper example of not being scared to try out new things. Executing it will be awesome.

I tell you, the dude got spunk! I like the courage of his convictions.

Hmmm Fi, you don ignite some fire in lots of people with this article and I am just waiting excitedly to see the eruption which will be so good for the ecosystem. Me i am going to keep using Steemit to start something too.

Make e reach as many as e fit reach!

Everyone has to understand that there’s a lot more beyond just blogging. We can touch the real world with our little actions here!
