A Harley Davidson And A Lucky Truck Driver:
I was sitting in our local pub (Hotel) in Australia a few years ago and an old friend sat beside me and started telling me this story, I believe the base of the story to be true but I'm sure some of the details have possibly changed over the years.
A Truck driver broke down in an Australian outback town, he met up with a chap that helped him out with finding the problem with his truck, he also helped the truck driver order the part they needed to fix the truck and he also gave him a bed for the night.
The Part was going to take a week to get shipped to the town so the helpful man let the truck driver stay at his place until the part arrived and they could fix the truck. They became good friends and the truck driver helped the chap with a few jobs around his property in return for the helpful mans generosity.
One of the jobs was to clean out an old shed out the back, as they were clearing it out the truck driver spotted an older model Harley Davison, the truck driver loved Harley Davidsons so he asked the man if he could buy it so he could restore it. After some negotiation they agreed on a price of $500.00
The part came for the truck so they repaired it then loaded up the Harley Davidson said their good byes and off the truck driver went. The truck driver arrived home and was really excited about the Harley, he unloaded it and put it in his shed then started making an assessment of the parts he would need to get it running to start with.
It was time to ring the local Harley Davidson dealer to order some parts, once on the phone the dealer asked him to go and double check the engine number he gave the dealer as it didn't seem correct. He double checked it and read it out to the local dealer. The local dealer said I will buy the motor bike from you right now for $5,000.00 The truck driver was taken back a bit but declined the offer politely and explained he just wanted to restore the Harley. The truck driver ended the call and decided to contact Harley Davidson head office or main dealer in Australia.
The truck driver jumped on the phone again, the dealer answered and asked for the engine number. The truck driver read the number out and same deal the dealer said that can't be correct can you double check that the number is correct. The truck driver said I have already done that and this is the correct number. The dealer said straight away I will buy the Harley Davidson from you right now for $50,000. Now the truck driver was getting suspicious and wondered what the heck was going on. He thought to him self I better decline the offer and contact the Harley Davidson factory in America.
Here we go again the truck driver thought to himself and rang the Harley Davison factory in America. The dealer answered, the truck driver gave him the engine number, the dealer said no way that can't be the right engine number, The truck driver said yes it is I have checked it and double checked it. The dealer said to the truck driver can you please go take the seat off the Harley Davidson turn it over and tell me what it says.
Sure enough, the truck driver went out to the shed and took the seat off the Harley turned it over and there was a plaque under the seat that read "To James Dean Love Elvis Presley"
The truck driver accepted Harley Davidson's offer which was over 1 million Dollars.
