Jack rushed out from the police station that night and headed
back to Jennifer’s house. The ray of light coming from the
headlight of his car reflected on Jennifer’s window. Before he
could reach their door, Jennifer came out without the seed. She
had left it in the room with Lana.
“Jack, what are u still doing here?” Jennifer asked.
Jack dragged her by the hand to his car without providing an
answer to the question. “There is a new development” he began.
“I think the hunters aren’t the only one who want the seed, even
the police”
“The police?” Jennifer slid her hair
voraciously. “Why would they want it?”
“They want to destroy it! According to my uncle, if the seed isn’t
destroyed completely, Zumga city will be experiencing war with
the hunters generation to generation” Jack paused. He could see
Jennifer looking confused. So he gently held her two hands.
“What do u think? Are you willing to give the seed out to be
destroyed coz I’ve not told my uncle where you are”
“Jack, i don’t know what to do” Jennifer began. “The seed is
possessing me. I think anybody who wants to take it or destroy it
will first kill me coz I’m developing a strong love for it that i can’t
even allow anyone to harm it”
“If that’s what you want, I’ll help and protect you”
“Really?”
“Yes, i may not have superpowers but I’ll do my best to protect
you” Both stared at each other. They were obviously falling in love
but when Jennifer remembered Karina, she withdrew her hands
from Jack’s and slid her hair again.
“I have to go inside now” she said then stepped backward.
“Okay then, good night” Jack replied. He entered into his car and
drove off.
Jennifer returned to her room but
couldn’t believe what she saw. She saw Lana standing at the
window with the seed in her hand! “Lana?” she called.
Lana turned with a smile and stretched the seed to her saying,
“You can have it”
Jennifer amazingly took it. “How did you take it?” she asked.
“I just took it from the bed”
“It didn’t hurt you? I mean didn’t you see fire?”
“No”
“Come here” Jennifer hugged her
thinking critically why the seed rejected others but accepted Lana.

At Hannah’s resident, she met her
grandmother in the room. The room was quite dim created by a
flame of white candle. Vena laid face-up on her bed with hands
closed on her stomach. Though her eyes were closed but she
noticed Hannah’s presence at the door.
“I just killed two invincible hunters at Jane’s house” Hannah
broke the silence.
“So soon?” Vena opened her eyes. “Guess the war will start
sooner than i thought” she added.
“Granny?” Hannah stepped forward and the sound of her shoes
echoed the room. “I think the seed gives life, right?”
“Yes” Vena replied.
“How?”
“If it’s in your possession, you’ll become immortal”
“Immortal? You mean Jane isn’t gonna die because the seed is in
her possession?”
“Exactly” Vena closed her eyes again while Hannah went deep in
thought thinking about how she would get the seed from Jennifer.
As a witch, the grandmother understood what she was thinking
and said, “Never you try that”
“Try what, granny?” Hannah asked.
“Never try what u are thinking” Vena replied while Hannah
walked out angrily.

12:14am
All those who knew about the seed that night had a stupefying
solemn which made them to stay awake in the night. Uncle Ben
walked around his sittingroom with a cup of alcoholic drink in his
hand. All he could think of was the
encounter he had with Jack.
On the other hand, Frank was still awake too. One could see him
before his lap top, on his bed looking very serious. Obviously, he
was still making a research about the seed.
Furthermore, Karina wasn’t seriously thinking about the seed but
Jack. She wore only underwears with one of her legs raised on
the bed. She could remember how she started with Jack. There
was no formal relationship proposal between them but she loved
and became part of his life.
Finally, As Jack thought of Jennifer’s situation, so as Randy was
admiring her beauty too.

THE NEXT MORNING
Jennifer jerked awake by the sound of her cell phone. She wore a
white transparent pyjamas. One could see her pant clearly as she
walked to the window and opened it. She saw cars running
speedily on the road. Suddenly, a child ran to the middle of the
road to pick her balloon. Meanwhile, a trailer was coming with a
speed! People and the child’s parents shouted and ran to save
her but the obstruction of other moving cars couldn’t let them.
“Oh, my God!” Jennifer exclaimed and ran out with the pyjamas.
There was no way the child could have been saved and the driver
of the trailer had matched brake forcefully thereby making the
trailer to somersault.
“No!” Jennifer shouted. She felt a power within her so she
stretched her hand at the child. Immediately, the child landed in
her arms then everybody’s eyes went to her even her parents who
came outside..

Even Jennifer herself became surprise of what she did. She gently
pulled the child down as the child’s parents and other people ran
to meet her. They knew that no witch could do that because
witches and wizards don’t expose their powers publicly like that,
and definitely, Jennifer wasn’t a witch.
“Hi, are you okay?” Jennifer asked the little child who didn’t say
anything but stared at her. Just then, her parents arrived. The
mother carried her while the father said looking at Jennifer,
“Thank you for saving our only
daughter”
Jennifer didn’t say a word. She looked back just to see her own
parents staring at her surprisingly. Already, people had converged
snapping her pictures and asking her questions.
“Are you a witch?” one of them asked positioning his camera well.
“I’m not a witch” Jennifer replied.
“Are you a superwoman? Do you have super powers..?” As the
questions went on without Jennifer responding to any of them,
the siren of fire fighters and the police came from a distant so
Jennifer ran inside their house, into her room. She began to look
at her hands breathing hastily. To confirm whether she was the
one that saved the child, she had to try it with an object. She
looked at her wardrobe concentrating pertinently on her clothes.
Suddenly, the clothes began to quiver and eventually left the
wardrobe and floating in the air. As Jennifer heard a knock on
the
door, she brought down her hand then all the clothes fell on the
floor. Her parents came in.
“Jane, what just happened over there?” the father asked.
“Where, Dad?” Jennifer returned the question.
“Outside!”
“Nothing happened, Dad”
“But we saw you save that little child” the mother interfered. “Do
you have powers?” she asked but Jennifer remained quiet. She
knew how her parents hated powers especially from witches and
wizards, so she said, “I’m not a witch”
“That’s not the question!” the father provoked. “Of course we
know you aren’t a witch. The question is whether you have
powers!”
Jennifer kept quiet with her hands
behind her. She glanced through the window to see policemen
making inquiries, so she averted her eyes from them back to her
parents. “No, i don’t have powers” she replied.
“How come you save that child?” the mother asked.
“I don’t know”
“Better, coz i won’t tolerate you, your seed and powers in this
house” the father walked out angrily but the mother slowly
walked to Jennifer. She made her sit on the bed with her. She
was surprise to see Jennifer’s clothes on the floor.
“Why are your clothes on the floor?”
“Umm.. I’m sorry, let me pick them up” Jennifer wanted to stand
but the mother prevented her saying, “What has come over you,
Jane? I think you aren’t yourself”
“I’m fine, mum” Jennifer began with her face downward and
twisting her fingers but she suddenly looked at her mother. “Mum,
do you hate me?”
“No” the mother answered sincerely.
“What if i turn out to be something else?”
“Like what?”
Jennifer kept quiet while her mother placed a hand on her
shoulder. “I will always love you dear” she said.
“Thank you, mum” Jennifer hugged her.

Few hours later, the news went online that a girl with powers
saved a child from a hazardous accident. That wasn’t the only
power Jennifer had. There were
others she was yet to discover.
At Hannah’s residence, Jennifer bagged in with the happiness of
the power she just discovered. She needed nobody to talk to
about it but Hannah. “Ann! Ann!” she shouted in the livingroom.
“Ann isn’t around” Vena came out.
“Where is she?”
“She just left to Keza Supermarket to get something”
“Okay, thanks” Jennifer hurried to the supermarket. She pushed
the door of the market open and looked around if she would see
Hannah. She wore a jean jacket over a black top, and on her
waist was also a short jean skirt. She never hesitated to carry the
seed along with her in her bag. After she hurried inside the
supermark at the end of a particular roll, she saw a girl in a black
attire so she ran to her thinking she was Hannah.
“Hey, Ann” Jennifer touched the girl.
“Excuse me?” the girl turned. Just then, Jennifer realised that it
wasn’t Hannah.
“Sorry, i thought you are someone I’m looking for” Jennifer turned
immediately. After taking few steps, the five old witches and
wizards who also wanted the seed blocked her. They dressed in
different attire.
“Hey, you are blocking my way” Jennifer said holding her bag
tightly.
“Yes, we know, Remina” a witch said then Jennifer became
surprise.
“Where did you get that name?”
“We have waited for you and the seed. Now is time for you to
give it to us”
“Who are you?”
“It doesn’t matter, give us the seed!” they began to move
forward.
Jennifer stretched her hands to activate her power but nothing
happened. Then she concluded that they were witches and
wizards, so she took on her heels but they pursued her…
