Hey there. Been a while. I wrote this a few days ago for reddit's nosleep forum. Hope you like it.
"This is something that probably has happened to you.
Well, that's actually the wrong statement. Maybe it hasn't happened to you, but everyone has definitely been in the presence of stuff like this. Paranormal experiences: a creepy house at the end of the road where black cats gather, a glitch in the middle of a phone call with a voice prompting you to go to him/her, to be jogging down the street where you're suddenly stopped by a horrible smell that makes you tilt your head enough to see a abundant leak of fresh blood (and sometimes guts) coming from the cracks of a wall nearby you.
At least, that's the kind of stuff we'd all agree Lady Death was a part of.
I live in Venezuela, a small country in the middle of Latin America with not much stuff to go on apart from it's shitty goverments and even shittier presidents. However, every city or little town here has its own stories, battles, hardships, etc. Which makes for a lot of nightmare-fuel in each place.
My home medium-sized city was in the middle of the map, with fairly quiet places between all the noise. My house was in a neighbourhood known to be a red zone of crime if you weren't from around. Most of the people here know each other and everybody minds their bussiness.
Even with all the shit that went down in Lady Death's street.
My grandma, who is 81 years old, didn't call her Lady Death. She called her Ines, which was supposedly her real name. Ines was a 10 year-old girl from a wealthy family, when they were the first to establish themselves in that part of town when all was still dirtroad. The structure still stands, a victorian type house containing at least three floors. Grandma says you could never see beyond their windows, all of them covered by the same kind of white, thick drape. In her words "it was like a white tarp". It's all boarded up now. Ines died in 1992.
Me and my family (including grandma) live about 5 blocks from Lady Death's house. We never knew how she met Lady Death, or if they had a relationship of some kind. She only tells us little bits when she's in the mood. Apart from being an old widow who lived in that house, we're in the dark. And even so, everyone in the city knows about Lady Death. And a 30% of the outsiders from the state.
What's so weird about Lady Death's and her house? Would you believe me if I told you there's actually a police record of that place and her? That rumors in the hospital go that when her husband died and he was found in the morgue, he just appeared there in the floor, butt-naked and also cleanly castrated? That on certain sundays birds fly over her house in a circle?
You can always get a light trip if you're not aware that you're near Lady Death's place. Experiences may vary. Someone said that neither lighters nor matches can make fire there. I heard stories of people who see a young, naked woman on the roof, standing idle. Some people say that especially if you got headphones on, you might hear wailing. I said to be aware of where you're walking if you're near, because you can somehow find yourself at her door and not remembering how you got there.
The police record was something a friend from law school, who works with the police, told me. It's even marked under the L. "There's not just one folder, either." he told me one time we were shooting the shit because the teacher never came. "There's three. One in the missing people division, one in the kidnappings division, and a last one in the homicides division. To the latter, only high rank officers have access to."
"You never saw inside one?" I asked him.
"Hell nah, pana (it's like venezuelan for homie). Whoever looks in that file gets the short straw for the next event that goes on there."
Oh yeah. The "events". Every year or so, something crawls outside of Lady Death's house. Or gets trapped inside. Sometimes it's a 2 foot spider walking down the street. Sometimes it's a weird red smoke. Sometimes is a 8 foot man with a straw hat. What gets caught inside are just three things, drunk men, children under 10, and any kind of dog. It's general knowledge that if someone is missing and seen near the house when an event happens, the truth will come out on the next event.
Some people get unlucky and leave unscathed. Can't say much for their for their mental health though. The dogs get rabid.
It's not a typo. I'd say the lucky ones are the ones who turn up dead.
The hobos sleep anywhere but in her yard. The trash gets ripped open anywhere but in her block. Curiously enough, when the riots ocurred in 2014, that whole block was avoided by the anti-riot squads or 'colectivos'. Not a scratch, not even a bullet shell on the ground.
There's a bunch of stories. Like I said, every event is different. But there's one that's the most known to people around here and breaks her rule of abduction.
Raul and Ana's disappearance and their finding.
These two were the definition of junkies. They slept on different streets and yards of the area, moving every night with their trusty piece of cardboard that served as a queen bed. You could see them from time to time, asking for food on a daily basis and for money when they needed a fix. I remember this one time my mom walked me to school when I was like nine. We found them at a corner of the street and they started following us until they finally asked for 'breakfast'. My mom gave them the equivalent of 20 bucks at the time and they went on their merry way. "Everytime you see them from afar, take another path." She told me, despite they weren't exactly harmful.
One night, it was pouring down cats and dogs. Every road was flooded and not even a porch could help you with the cold wind and even colder water. A witness says she saw Raul and Ana running around, trying to find shelter. When they stopped in front of Lady Death's house. She said they stayed there, hesistant for a few minutes, then went inside after a lightning hit nearby. I remember it rained all night, but the witness said that everything was dead silent as soon as the door closed behind Raul.
Not a car, not a breeze. Dead silent. Until 3:00 AM.
I remember waking up at that time and look at my clock as well. The electricity was out too. My mom came to my room and hugged me tightly. Her warm tears dropping in my pajamas. She slept with me till morning. Years later, I would come to know that everybody in a radius of 1 kilometer woke up at the same time too. Some of them couldn't go back to sleep. Too scared.
A week passed. Everyone around the neighbourhood asked about 'the junkies' but no one really cared to make a missing persons report. Until another cold morning, a little girl who went to my school found a cleanly sawed-off tatooed hand of a man with her dolls. No one knows how it got there. People started finding other body parts that day too. A whole woman's leg inside a car's trunk, a man's naked torso in the butcher shop, a couple of woman's arms with a for sale sticker in the window of an antiques shop. I think everyone was even more confused when the woman's naked torso was impaled by a bunch of branches in the only tree inside Lady Death's yard. The cops took another whole week recovering all the body parts, along with Raul and Ana's frightened-to-death looking heads that appeared outside of Lady Death's front door.
It's still pretty weird for a couple of reasons. No one could figure out why the body parts didn't bleed, despite still having their pink color. Or why they were still warm to the touch.
And, of course, no one could explain the engraving of letters in each of the extremities skin.
