Storj – Cooperative storage cloud

Storj, you can say its just another cryptocurrency but when you start mining it’s one of easiest to mine. You can do using existing hardware and literally nothing required as initial setup as well. Just download the software from Storj and allocate available extra space and thats it; you are done.

If you are serious miner, I will suggest you do some research on hardware before starting Storj Mining.

Recommended hardware requirements (per Node and as per current version of Storj Application):

  • Maximum Capacity — 8TB /Node
  • Memory up to 2GB Memory (Active Node)
  • CPU — One Logical core per node.

For myself, I have ended up using following hardware and its purely based on cost.

CPU — Intel i7 2600 or AMD FX 8 series;

  • I have chosen this because of 4 cores and 8 threads which means I can attach up to 8 Hard Drives.
  • Buy the cheapest available. CPU performance doesn’t matter much; Good and unlimited internet speed will be counter the most.

Memory — as mentioned in recommended hardware, I will suggest you buy minimum of 24GB and if you can find cheaper go for maximum supported which is 32GB.

Hard Drives — most costly part of all. After spending some time, External 8TBs are cheapest available in the market but if you can find good NAS drives at better price, go for it. I have mix of both worlds but mostly 8TB externals (purchased from Amazon).

PSU — with maximum of Eight (8) HDDs and CPU (95w) 450w or 550w is sufficient. But buy the gold as CPU has to be up and running 24*7.

Fan — my recommendation to have couple of extra fans; You can buy 120mm for about $7-$10 based on brand. Most of them runs same way; not much difference and don’t forget to check the noise level.

SAS Card — this is the most important part of all; old motherboard does not support more than 4 SATAs; if you are not interested in new motherboard i will suggest you to buy this card and will cost you $30-$40 and $10-$15 for each cable. Refer to below links for Hardware.
