The cyclone Rosa today became a category 1 hurricane on the Saffir-Simpson scale and favors rains in several states in western Mexico, the National Meteorological Service (SMN) reported today.
"Rosa intensifies to hurricane category 1 on the Saffir-Simpson scale, is located west-southwest of Manzanillo, Colima, its circulation reinforces the potential for storms in the states of western Mexico," the SMN said in its most recent report .
At 10.00 local time (15.00 GMT), Rosa was located in Pacific waters about 820 kilometers west-southwest of Manzanillo and 300 kilometers south of Isla Socorro, both in the state of Colima.
The cyclone travels 17 kilometers per hour to the west-northwest with maximum sustained winds of 120 kilometers per hour and gusts of up to 150 kilometers per hour.
