This past week Ontario has seen crippling storms, some of the worst on record. Over and over again we saw towns flooded to the point roads were closed and states of emergency were declared. Dams broke and rivers peaked while residents caught in the upswell were evacuated.
And this seems to be the norm now. More rain fell in the past month over Ontario than all of last year combined. More is coming according to the forcasts. Severe weather is changing how we live, where we live, and even if we can live, all over the planet.
Our well was contaminated with e coli last month after 15 days of thunderstorms, and yes, we got very sick from it before we found out what was causing it. This is a warning to anyone with a well, to have your water tested every three months or so, or after a serious drenching.
I live literally minutes from a town that was nearly decimated by e coli 14 years ago, that made international headlines. And I still did not expect this to happen to us. Test your wells. If it is a dug well, or a drilled well. After a major storm groundwater from nearby fields that are over fertilized can get into the auqafier, and contaminate your supply.
Be safe in the storm, and after.
