Marquez Start at the forefront of the German GP

Note the Honda rider's time is one minute 20.270 seconds in the qualifying session

, BERLIN - MotoGP world champion Marc Marquez secured the leading position in the German Grand Prix for the ninth time in a row on Saturday (14/7). The Honda driver's time record was one minute 20.270 seconds in the qualifying session, which was a record at the Sachsenring Circuit.

Marquez confirmed his status as "King of Sachsenring". He has a great chance of winning a ninth consecutive victory at a circuit in Eastern Germany close to Chemnitz on Sunday (15/7).

The Spaniard gets a tough competition from Italian Pramac Ducati rider Danilo Petrucci. Note time is only 0.025 seconds slower. Petrucci also recorded the second fastest time in the qualifying session last year.

Spaniard Jorge Lorenzo, who will be teammate Marquez next season, completes the front row with his Ducatinya.

Mainstay of Yamaha, Maverick Vinales, qualified in fourth, while two Italian riders Andrea Dovizioso of Ducati and Valentino Rossi of Yamaha joined him in the second row.

Marquez's dominance at Sachsenring started in 2010 when he was still racing in the 125cc class (now Moto3). He then earned pole position in Moto2 in 2011 and 2012, and six times the leading start in this circuit in the MotoGP class.

The 25-year-old MotoGP champion won all the races. He is currently 41 points ahead of Rossi in the pebalap after eight rounds of the race.
