Hi beautiful people.
Here's the second episode of the series GAME CHANGER. If you missed the previous episode, you can read it up here. Enjoy!
'Look, I'm seriously bored' Claire turned to her friend Susan who had just spoken and replied 'Me too. Let's play Scrabble'.
They were both lying on Claire's bed in the students hostel on campus.
'Not that kind of bored' Susan responded. 'I need a thrill... a real game… I have the perfect one in mind and You, girlfriend, are going to help me play it'. she turned to Claire who was now eying her warily.
Claire had learnt earlier in their friendship to be cautious of her friend's mischievous nature. They had been friends since their first year in school - ever since they'd met at the administrative block to carry out their registration processes.
Although they were good friends and course mates, they lived apart in school. Claire being from a less privileged home and hardly ever able to make ends meet, shared the hostel room with three other girls while Susan who was from a wealthy home had a rented apartment all to herself.
Claire atimes spent the night in her friend's place especially when there were assignments to be completed and even though Susan had invited her several times to move in with her, she found she preferred her own space…little as it may be. Susan's lifestyle outside school, especially her late night parties was something Claire had decided she didn't want to be a part of from the beginning. As such, she'd always declined sleepovers at weekend.
'What game do you have in mind' she asked '…and I hope it's not one of your silly pranks…if it is.. please count me out'.
Susan laughed 'Babe calm down ... you too dey fear.. anyways, I want you to go out with Dave or at least pretend you're interested in going out with him'
'Dave?' …. But he's your boyfriend' Claire protested.
'so? he's my boyfriend and not yours…right?…and I said I want you to go out with him. It's simple'.
'What kind of boredom would make you suggest such a stupid Idea?… I am not interested in this game of yours. Let's discuss something else.'
'No. I have a reason for this particular game and I want you to play it for me. Dave's been acting weird lately. He hardly ever answer my calls nor does he treat me as well as he used to. I want to know if he's cheating on me, maybe seeing someone else. It won't take you much… you guys are already known to each other, thanks to our friendship…use that to your advantage and try to seduce him. I want to know if he'll fall for you.'
Claire glared at Susan 'Can you hear yourself? You, want me, Claire, to seduce Dave, your boyfriend….who does that? Besides, I don't see it achieving anything, even if he's seeing someone else which I doubt, there's no way he'd fall for me. I'm not as beautiful as you are neither am I in your class. And, You could simply ask him to his face if he's seeing someone else rather than go this route. What if he finds out and decides to break up… ?
'He won't find out…not if you play your cards right,' Susan interrupted her.
'…..and what makes you think I'll be willing to do that?
Susan smiled coyly 'Because, your dear friend asked you to…?'
'…but'
'…and before you interupt.. remember you still owe me some money. If you do this for me.i won't ask you to repay the loan. I'll even add a little extra cash… you know you need the money.
'You said I could pay you back during the holidays when I get an extra job. Why are you suddenly requesting the money now?.
'Because I can…and because this is very important to me. Just help me with Dave and we'll call it even'.
'I'm sorry, but I can't do that. Asides it being very bad and deceptive, i certainly can't sell myself. It's demeaning' Claire said standing and heading towards the door. 'I'm going down to the common room. If you want your money back, give me a few days and I'll run around to try and get it but what you're asking for is impossible and against my nature.'
Susan picked up her handbag and moved to stand in front of the mirror. She made adjustments to her outfit and hair before turning to Claire. 'this is no big deal as far as I'm concerned and I don't know why you're blowing it out of proportion with your 'holier than thou attitude'. Anyway, I'm leaving. If you change your mind, you know where to find me. I'll give you between now and the weekend to change your mind. If you do, there's going to be a party at Dave's place on Friday and it'll be a great opportunity to carry out our plan. Untill then holy girlfriend, enjoy your beautiful self. She blew air kisses at Claire and walked out with her nose in the air.
