Rent Excuses # 8 and 9: Get the Delay You Need. Real Excuses Used on Me (the Landlord) that got the Renter Delays and Sometimes Cost Me Big Bucks.

Your landlord is going to hate me for this.

Rent Excuse 8:

“I'll have it by Saturday.” (or Sunday)

Again, although this is similar to Excuses 6 and 7 it is different due to being on a weekend. While this excuse may get you the initial extension that it purports to request, it also sets the landlord up for a follow-up excuse (#9), which you can give him on Saturday. In addition, even by itself it gets you an extension to a day when you are likely to be gone for weekend activities and not easily found by your landlord.

Rent Excuse 9: (Used on Saturdays, Sundays, or holidays)

“The banks are closed today and I can't cash my check until Monday.”

Even if you got paid on Friday, you may have gotten paid too late to make it to the bank (especially if you are purposely too slow). In many cities, the banks are open on Saturday morning, so it behooves you to either bank somewhere that isn't open or to make sure you avoid your landlord until after the bank closes. This excuse works well as a follow-up to Excuse 8.
