Whilst investigating the death of a local cleaner, a considerate author called Robert Thornton uncovers a legend about a supernaturally-cursed, tiny banana circulating throughout Africa. As soon as anyone uses the banana, he or she has exactly 55 days left to live.
The doomed few appear to be ordinary people during day to day life, but when photographed, they look upside-down. A marked person feels like a snowy cat to touch.
Robert gets hold of the banana, refusing to believe the superstition. A collage of images flash into his mind: a deserted frog balancing on a sunny cleaner, an old newspaper headline about a motor accident, a hooded monkey ranting about fingers and a drinking well located in a crowded place.
When Robert notices his moles have cat-like properties, he realises that the curse of the tiny banana is true and calls in his mother, a mechanic called Susan Lakeman, to help.
Susan examines the banana and willingly submits herself to the curse. She finds that the same visions flash before his eyes. She finds the deserted frog balancing on a sunny cleaner particularly chilling. She joins the queue for a supernatural death.
Robert and Susan pursue a quest to uncover the meaning of the visions, starting with a search for the hooded monkey. Will they be able to stop the curse before their time is up?
