(For personal reasons the names and cities have been altered for this story! Thanks.)
It's a super hot summer day in a little town that people usually miss if they blink while they drive by. It's filled with quant little stores, restaurants, and salons. One salon in particular is where our main character works, Isla. Isla had always been told how strikingly beautiful, funny, smart, caring, and funny she was. Isla had always been a dedicated and hard worker, she knew her responsibilities and knew what she had to do to fulfill her goals and dreams.
Like many girls her age Isla had only ever had one serious boyfriend in her life all throughout high school. However, when it came to the future the two decided they wanted different things and just maintained a friendship.
Since Isla was new to being single, and working 80 hours a week at the salon she decided a GREAT idea would be to try out the hottest dating app people were talking about. She figured "what's the harm? If anything I can at least make some new friends!" With her blissful heart and naive mind she made her account. A few days later she started chatting with a few of the nice handsome boys she had met from the app. After a few not so great dates Isla ALMOST gave up the idea of using an app to meet potential boyfriends. How vain the whole idea seemed to her anyways." People post pictures and a few good words and that is supposed to mean they'll be fantastic together?" She thought. "How absurd".
The next day Isla was pleasantly surprised by the attractive boy who had left a message to her. His name? Paul. His message read," if you could describe yourself with only emojis what would they be?" Isla thought this one liner was so adorable for some reason, it was new! Making it seem more enticing and exciting to her. So she respond later that evening while laying in bed the emojis she thought described herself the best! Paul was fast at responding asking her next to put into emojis her best first date idea. As the week went on Isla and Paul messaged each mother quite frequently. To the point that Isla had easily fallen for the dating app boy Paul.
Isla decided to ask Paul to finally meet in person for a few drinks to really get to know each other! She had the weekend off and decided Saturday would be a perfect day. She was nervous that Paul would not be exactly what she had imagined... Yet! She was also nervous she would be as Paul imagined. That being said she got as done up as possible, new spray tan, had her hair done, bought new make up, even did her nails three different colors that week in order to find the PERFECT one. And of course she bought nearly seven different outfits just to make sure she could look as perfect as possible.
Paul lived about two hours away, in Isla's eyes he lived in a big city. Which the city was big, not New York City big, but you didn't miss it with a sneeze like her town. The day Isla was supposed to meet with Paul she sadly had to cancel her plans due to an unforseen work error she had to be there to fix! She was the assistant manager so everything came down on her shoulders, especially fixing things. Apologetically as she could she rearrange their plans for the following weekend. Paul was undoubtedly upset but didn't show it to Isla. He agreed it would be fine for the next weekend and the week went by. Finally it was the day they were to meet! The drive up to Paul's town made Isla so nervous her hands were sweating. She hadn't drive that far alone before for one, and the idea of meeting Paul was so exciting to her she couldn't take it. For some reason deep down Isla really thought Paul was perfect.
After her break up with her previous boyfriend Isla told God she did not want to waste anymore years of her life dating someone who wasn't perfect in every way to her. Now that seems a bit drastic, however Isla always thought there was a perfect would mate for everyone. So her wish was not too much to ask for..
When thinking about Paul he had it all it seemed at first. He was charming, and handsome, worked out everyday, ate ORGANIC, they had the same goals for life, enjoyed the same music, movies, and television shows, he dressed and had his haircut just like she imagined her husband to have. He knew she was high maintainence and he never ran from it. His belief with God was strong, he seemed to respect his mother, was educated, and he even told her he had a job. He had everything she was looking for to the exact.
While Isla was explaining the boy to her mother, her mother stopped her at the end and said "Isla what's the catch?" to Isla's mothers disbelief Isla responded "Mom there's nothing, he IS my perfect".
When Isla arrived to Pauls house she assumed he would be there waiting for her at his door with flowers or something. However she was greeted with a text to say come in and a shirtless older man mowing the yard. However that didn't stop Isla for going through with it and brushing off the small imperfections at least for now. She followed Paul into the basement and they both sat on his couch, at opposite ends. He offered her a glass of wine and asked if she would like to go get a bite to eat before heading downtown. She agreed to both and as much as she felt like Paul should have at least hugged her by now she went alone with finishing her wine and following him back up the stairs to her car where they ended up at a restaurant in his neighborhood shopping plaza.
The small flaw in Isla's plan is she had told Paul she was 21, however she was really only 20 for a few more months. She didn't feel good about lying but didn't want to pass up an offer to someone who she deemed as her perfection.
So while sitting at the restaurants bar Paul tried to order Isla a drink, the bar refused to serve her since she neglected to give them an ID. Since her ID was underage she wasn't one to buy a fake ID so she simply said she had lost hers. Since the bar was refusing to serve her the two had Paul finish his drink and snack and they headed downtown.
Isla's first experience with downtown was not as please many as she was hoping.....
To find out how Isla's first date experience went check back in tomorrow! <3
