The Cliff

in story •  7 years ago

out of nowhere, like an innocent gentle breeze, he appeared. out from the depths of the darkness that surrounded her, he shone a little brighter than everyone else. at first it was difficult for her to even notice, as the darkness had dulled her senses to the point where even the brightest lights looked like extinguished bulbs. but eventually she saw the light, the glimmer of hope, the flicker of something special.

how exciting. something new. something beautiful. something to save her, to drag her out of the deepest cave she had managed to crawl into. something for her to care about, after an unbearably long while of feeling nothing.

however, sometimes gentle breezes are warning signs for much more turmoil and danger. usually they go unnoticed until it is too late, until you're in too deep.

he swept her away but dangled her over a cliff and she no longer knew if she wanted to fall or wanted to be saved. which would be easier? less painful?
