LEGO Star Wars Story, Part 53: "Echo Evacuation"

in story •  7 years ago

All the blockades have been broken, the Empire could arrive any second now. They intercepted a transmission informing the Imperial ground troops that more AT-ATs as well as troops will be sent down for the final assault, they will most likely not be sparing anything when the destruction of the rebellion is at hand. In Echo Base the troops mobilize as there still isn't enough time even with the heroic sacrifice of the many volunteers who gave their lives on the blockades which were just meant to slow the Empire down.

While the last of the soldiers left gear up and get ready for the fight of their lives, or more accurately the fight of their deaths, others are preparing the starfighters and transport frigates to get off this planet and as far out of Empire's reach as they can possibly be. One such soldier now repurposed as a mechanic is fixing one of the broken engines of the Red 5 X-Wing starfighter belonging to Luke Skywalker who is approaching him right now...

Luke Skywalker passes by not even saying a word, he jumps and walks up the ramp into the cockpit where he puts on his helmet and lowers the blast shield of the cockpit. He just sits there and thinks about Vader, what was it that he felt? Why did Vader hesitate when he could have easily killed him? Strangely enough Vader is sitting in his shuttle at this exact time thinking the exact same things, both of them unaware of each other...

The mechanic closes the engine's lid and hits it with his wrench which causes it to buzz and start on. He shouts at Luke that his ship can fly. Luke doesn't respond, he just turns on the systems and elevates from the ground. After slowly going through the large metal gate of the base with his large vessel he blasts off into high speeds not even knowing why he is doing that or where he is heading.

The smoke of his engines causes Han Solo to cough for a few seconds but he returns to work. They are trying to establish communication with the evacuation frigates so they know what is actually going on up there as they cannot just walk outside. The small dish is broken beyond repair but the general tries his hardest to get it working... Who would say that if he hadn't managed to fix it that they the galaxy would still be under Imperial control?

Luke sees a shuttle in the distance and senses it again... the same feeling he had when he faced Vader, he knows who is inside that vessel... He closely follows it as it speeds up trying to escape him. Luke accelerates as well but still doesn't fire at it. He is in a state of trans, he knows he can easily shoot it down but he doesn't for some unexplainable reason. Then the comm goes off and he hers Han Solo's voice which causes him to snap out of it, he blasts his quadruple blasters into the shuttle...
To be continued...
