Disco Reads, An Audiobook Review

Alright! This will be the last of the Dresden Files books for a bit. I figure I can only rant so much about the series and James Marsters before you get tired. I haven't even included a Narrator section this time to help with that. Next time I will be spreading out to some Sci-Fi I think, so that should help break it up a bit.

Grave Peril - Jim Butcher

Read by James Marsters

The Story

From the book jacket:

Harry Dresden’s faced some pretty terrifying foes during his career. Giant scorpions. Oversexed vampires. Psychotic werewolves. It comes with the territory when you’re the only professional wizard in the Chicago area phone book.

But in all Harry’s years of supernatural sleuthing, he’s never faced anything like this: the spirit world’s gone postal. All over Chicago, ghosts are causing trouble — and not just of the door-slamming, boo-shouting variety. These ghosts are tormented, violent, and deadly. Someone — or something — is purposely stirring them up to wreak unearthly havoc.

But why? And why do so many of the victims have ties to Harry? If Harry doesn’t figure it out soon, he could wind up a ghost himself...

We continue the escalation of events from the first two books. Things start to get interesting and we are now getting hints at what is to come for the series. You can really start to feel things getting harder and harder for him, and this book starts setting up some really important plot points for the late series.

We gain a couple of very important characters this time around. Susan, a reporter for a syndicated tabloid wants to get into the world of the supernatural for her stories, and thinks she can charm Dresden to this end. We also meet the only modern day Paladin I think I have seen. Michael, a Knight of the Cross, carries one of the 3 Swords that have a nail worked into the hilt. Yes, those 3 nails. He provides an excellent moral compass for Harry through the series, and is always a part of the story you enjoy.

This is the last of what has been considered his rougher books, from here they just get better.

Another Long story short:

10/10 - I might be a fanatic about these...

Probably not G-rated enough for me to read, but sounds interesting. Is this a series that you are reading through?

It's definitely not G rated, but not horrible either. I have read and re-read these I don't know how many times. (I say that even though the correct verb is to listen)

Hahah, I'll let it slide this time :) Are there any books in his series you usually skip? I have found I am usually not a fan of the first sequel. I usually love the third and first only.

I love all 15 current books in the series, plus the several short stories anthologies... I am sure there is something else I love from this series, but I can't think of it right now.

So much love for series. I must a series to live and read!
