The Day She Grew Her Wings

She grew 2 tiny wings. She flapped them slowly. It felt good. "Hmm, how would it feel to fly?" she thought.

Suddenly she felt her feet lift off from the ground. "Wait, am I flying?! YES! I am flying!!!" she exclaimed.

The buildings started to get smaller and the wind felt colder as it touched her face. Her hair was a mess from the wind but she couldn't care less. This was the most exhilarating feeling ever!

"Birds! Am I flying side by side with these birds?" she thought. "My goodness, yes! I am flying with them!" she said excitedly.

She hummed joyful melody in her head. Best day ever! The day she has been waiting for has come. Her wings grew, tiny as they were, but "wings" nonetheless.

Wait a minute. "Something is wrong," she thought. Suddenly she started to descend. "NOOOO!!!" she shouted from the top of her lungs. She was falling. She was flying so high that she broke her tiny, delicate wings.

The fall felt like eternity but she knew she was going to hit the ground anyway. She just shut her eyes and prepared for the worst. Mumbled a short prayer even.

"I must be hitting the ground any moment now," she thought. She braced for impact. She was ready to be shattered to pieces. She was wrong. She exhausted and pushed herself to the limit. Now is the time to pay.

Then she felt them, tiny arms holding her. Protecting her from the bad fall... She landed softly. No bruises. No pain. Just her heart beating fast and cheeks pale from the terrifying experience. She made it. She was back on her feet again.

My Children, My Treasure

When you get married, you think of spending the rest of your life with the man you chose. CHOSE. Yes, you can choose the person you will get to spend your lifetime with, but not your children.

"Mommy, when you have your wings and you will fly... but when you fall, Gabbie, Kuya, Janjan and Daddy will catch you," said my little girl out of the blue. She's 3.

"Mommy, if you don't have wings, Gabbie Kuya, Janjan and Daddy will carry you. Up, up and up!" she added.

What could she really mean with these words? Maybe for her, it is just to imitate what she watched on a Larva episode in Netflix but for me it is something else. A lot, lot more.

It otherwise gives me a conviction that our family will be there for each other. We've got each other's backs no matter what.
