Chapter Seventy-One

Jared was in mid slaughter when he was struck with a feeling that something was off. He tore through several more demons as he tried to determine what it was.

He took a look around and watched as the last of the humans pressed through the doors. The Faerian hunters had made short work of the possessed and bedlam had ensued as those still currently human made a mad dash for the exits. Several dozen demons had surprised him by standing their ground instead of leaving with them, but had quickly discovered they were outmatched and fled—straight into the claws and fangs of Michael’s crew.

Mathias appeared at his side panting from exertion. “I think it’s over. I’m a bit fucked up, kinda wishing we’d brought Anna along. Her magic fingers work wonders with this shit.”

Abruptly Jared realized what was wrong. A bolt of fear lanced through him, and it was her fear as well as his own.

He vaguely noted Chris and Jay taking the last of the hunters out of the building as he pulled out his phone and called her. It went to voicemail.

“What’s going on?” Mathias asked, noticing his expression.

“We’ve gotta go right fucking now,” he responded as he leapt into a blur.

The other males quickly followed and the group boarded the plane startling the sleeping pilots.

“Get us in the air,” Jared barked at them, “Boston, now.” He turned to Aerik. “Call Jess.”

Aerik dialed quickly and Jess’s sleepy voice picked up.
Jared snatched the phone from him. “Where’s Anna?” he demanded. He felt the jet lifting off but it did nothing to alleviate his panic.

“Wha…let me check.”

A few seconds later Jess sounded distraught. “She’s not here, I looked everywhere…”

Jared threw the phone back at Aerik, his eyes wild.

Anna leaned on the door of the van she’d been hastily thrown into, her heart beating madly. She recognized the two males who were absconding with her, they were part of Michael’s group in Vegas. She’d demanded to know where they were taking her but they ignored her, and when they spoke to one another it was in another language.

The driver had initially seemed excited, but then a phone call had him swearing and slamming his hand against the steering wheel. He barked something at the male seated beside her who pulled her against him, bringing a knife to her chest. The smell of fear filled the air around her.

They’re worried about being caught by Jared, she realized, and they certainly should be. She felt the vehicle careening to the left and caught a glimpse of an exit sign in her narrow slit of visibility.

**

As the jet rolled to a stop Jared shouted for the door to be opened, ready to tear it off if it didn’t happen fast enough. A moment later he leapt and blurred in the direction he sensed her.

Within minutes he was on top of a white van speeding down a dark, secluded highway and it took him half a second to assess the situation. There were two male vampires inside, one driving, the other in back. With a feral growl he gripped the edges of the metal roof and ripped it up, the sound of rending metal screaming as the driver screeched to a halt. Jared pulled the male in the backseat out by his hair and caught the glint of a knife. He snapped the male’s neck, tossing him to the side of the road before leaping on top of the driver who attempted to flee.

He dragged the thrashing male over next to where his partner lay twitching, and shouted for Anna to climb up on his back. As soon as she was latched on he used his free hand to yank the rapidly healing male from the concrete and blurred them all to a thickly wooded area. He dropped the injured male placing one booted foot on his back as he lifted the other one up by his throat.

“Anna,” he growled, “go sit over there,” he nodded in the direction of a tall pine and once she was seated he shook the terrified driver.

“Where were you taking her?” Jared’s fangs had dropped and the male gaped at him in fear as he struggled.

He shook him more violently. “WHERE?”

The male shook his head, his throat working but no sound emerging. Jared kicked the injured one onto his back and pulled a knife from his boot. In one swift motion he stabbed the prostrate male through his heart and twisted. When the body stopped writhing he slashed open the major arteries so the blood would flow out before returning his attention to the one he still held.

“Last. Chance.”

The male choked, “I made a vow, I can’t…”

“Then you’ll die.” Jared’s eyes flared brighter and he reached down and yanked the knife from the dead male’s chest and pressed it against the driver’s sternum. His fury was so all-encompassing it took every ounce of will he possessed not to rip the fucker’s limbs off.

The male spoke, his voice the rustle of dead leaves. “I’m dead anyway.” He made one last futile attempt to pull free and Jared buried the blade in to the hilt.

good story. but there's no way I can read all the episodes in a short time. this is very interesting, though a bit extrem :)

Ha! Yes, this would definitely seem a bit extreme if it was the first thing you read of the book!

No need to hurry through it, you could take as much time as you want ;) Actually I have two people currently reading the first book. There will be a break where I put a different, stand alone novel through steemit as I work on finishing book three of the series

She's in trouble now! I predict a well-earned spanking in the near future.

Haha, I wonder how many people who read this book think that exact thing! Or hope for it, for one reason or another lol!

I think the god-man is a man of his word, and he just reminded her recently about those spanks. Not that I advocate such an approach, especially since it apparently doesn't work on her anyway-- at least not as a form of punishment.

I had that exact same series of thoughts myself. He is indeed a man of his word, and she was warned!

I think she's taking advantage of his good nature!

Hahahahaha, yeah right!

I did! As for whether I just thought the exact thing or hoped for it, I'll leave you to decide ;)

Well, I think Jared learned something, don't leave the wife behind when you are going out to have fun. I also think Anna is going to get it from both side, Jared and Jess, maybe Michael will even get involved, after all Jess was left unprotected.

nyc story and the pictures are really effective keep it up

good work

i resteem post vote n follow bro

Ha! I knew it was the mole that stalked her. It's great how it unfolded. I really like this starting at the end of the raid. Nice pacing, and it really gave a great focus to what's important without drawing things out. Top notch stuff here, sis!

Great piece of work and for me, just the right length to each part. I hadn't read the first book and so had to catch up.
There were two parts that didn't come up, the page read "this page does not exist", but I kinda filled in the gaps. Looking forward to the next read 😀

I almost forgot about the spies from Demetrius, almost, but this tied in really well. Jared saved the day in a matter of minutes. Well...time for that spanking lol
