Face Time

in story •  6 years ago  (edited)

Every year my wife, Raymi, and I plan this post-holiday party with two other couples as a celebration of friendship and life.

Our party-planning crew.

We choose a different theme for each party, this year it was Masquerade 2019. There are food/drinks and a DJ spinning all kinds of music. The guest list has grown a little more each year, for 2019 the tally was somewhere near 150.

DJ Mouse (in the house), getting ready to get the party started.

People begin filtering in.

2018 was a challenging year for so many of us. It was so much fun to get everyone together in a room and watch them check their worries and responsibilities at the door for a few hours. We requested people bring donations of food and personal care items for The Neighborhood House and attendees were very generous with their donations.

In an age where online communication is dominant, there is nothing like real face time. So many people tell us how much they look forward to this event and it's become one of the highlights of our year too.

Our parents and grandparents socialized like this on a regular basis, our generation can learn a lot from them. When you speak to people face-to-face there's a kind of energy exchange that you just don't get any other way.

Time goes more quickly than you think, be sure you make the most of it. Make time for real face time. Here's to a happy, healthy, and prosperous 2019!

Looks like a great time! I love that you do it every year and people who were once strangers now get to know each other. Happy new year to you guys too, may it be a wonderful year with a lot more joy and ease:-)))

It was a lot of fun this year. We're right, we have met a lot of great people. The second to the last photo above are all friends from the skating rink that we started going to back in 2012. They're usually the life of the party. Thank you @natureofbeing! More joy and ease will be a very welcomed thing.

Looks like it was a fun event and you're so right, these kinds of gatherings really need to happen more often. Personal face to face interaction came naturally for the older generation, we can learn a lot from them! Events like these renew and strengthen ties, really great!

It's always so funny to watch the progression of socialization during the evening. At first, people keeping to themselves or who they initially showed up with and about an hour or so it (and maybe a few drinks?) they begin to socialize a little more and get out on the dance floor.

We are a funny lot aren't we, us people ;)
It's like we need something to break the ice and then we can relax and all barriers come down, perhaps some caveman protective instinct LOL!
Or a drink or two like you say :)

It's great to see you guys keep your post-holiday tradition alive.

Such a good idea! Really good to have it away from New Year, deep into January when a lot of people are feeling somewhat depressed.

It's good to get involved with real life and away from the loneliness that social media can often engender.

Bravo the Vance Waltons!

Thanks! It's a lot of work and planning but it's worth it. We all split the costs so it's not a huge financial burden either. January and February here in the upper Midwest are bru-tal...we can have weeks of subzero temps so this definitely is a bright spot for all of us. Happy 2019 @cryptogee!

How nice you came up with together. Now in a world where virtual dialogues are gradually crowding out real ones, we quickly lose personal contacts, live communication disappears. I begin to worry a lot about our generations. Thanks to your message, you give hope that all is not lost :)

This is very amazing party . Crew members done great job . Party dress and masks are making this party more beautiful.

Nice gathering and funfair for you all and I know you guys have an enjoyable time together . Nice partying

It is good sometimes to celebrate freindship. But I can see someone not wearing her own

Wow nice party with family . All pics are very beautiful. Mask costume is also very cute .

This is very good method to spent time with family and friends . You and your wife both are looking beautiful .

Thank you!

Its always awesome when everyone meets :D

Great initiative, I wish I could do something similar!

certainly time goes by very fast!!

I would enjoy something like this get together with friends. It looks like a New Year's Eve event.
Do all of you go in on the costs and who has the final say? The wives, Lol.

We always have it after the Holidays because everyone always has other commitments. The six of us usually start planning this later in the summer and split the costs. Actually, the decision making is all pretty democratic most of us believe in the Happy Spouse/Happy House philosophy instead of just Happy Wive/Happy Life. Lol.

Funny you should say that, Lol
I was making a joke and told my husband the tee shirt I was going to have made for him would say the later, "happy wife/ happy life". I may do a joke post about it sometimes.. haha! can't give you my punch line here.

No flowers and disco music I bet.

I'll be looking for that joke post. : )

LOL .... it would need something else to go with it...hmmm I will think on it.. maybe add it to the bottom of a regular post.

Meanwhile
I did one that is humor under @photobe but and afraid people may not get it. Most of the folks I interact with are from other countries don't know what Mad Magazine is.

@ericvancewalton, It's reflecting as you'll had an wonderful time. In my opinion when we celebrate in numbers then that environment becomes like a festival and we can share our experiences and emotions with friends and family to throw away the past burden and to start a new journey. Stay blessed. 🙂
