THE STORY OF THE SWORD, THE TREE, THE STONE AND THE WATER. > (Stories of old-Anthony, Subcomandante Macros, Roes, Athens 2003 , page 90, adaptation)

During an experiential seminar in which I participated, we heard the following story. It was a very interesting story, at least for me, and I was listening to it for the first time. The aim and purpose was to see how we handle the different situations presented to us, and who would be the best way to deal, for our benefit !!
{At past times, up in the mountains , all the things that people use for work or defense, gathered together. Than the sword spoke and said: “I am the strongest and I can destroy everyone! My blade cuts and gives dominion to the one that holds me and death to the one that confronts me!”

“Lies!” said the tree. “I am the most powerful . I resisted the wind and the wildest storm!” So the sword and the tree fought. The tree strengthen and hardened against his opponent, the sword. But the sword hit continuously and cut of the stump and destroyed the tree. “I am the strongest!” repeated the sword .

“Lies!” said the stone. “I am the most powerful, because I am flinty and ancient. I am massive and solid. So the sword and the stone fought. The stone became stiff and cement and confront the sword. The sword hit again and again and couldn’ t destroy the stone , but eventually broke the stone into many little pieces. But the sword’s edges were ruined from the battle and the stone was broken into pieces.

“It’ s a tie” said the sword and the stone and cried for their useless fight. Meanwhile there was the water of the stream which watched the fight , saying nothing. The sword saw the water and said:
“You are the weakest of all. You can’t do nothing to any of us. I’m stronger than you!” and jumped with grate vigor against the water of the stream. Hustle and bustle and noise occurred and the fishes were scared, but the water didn’t resist the hits of the sword. Little by little without saying anything, the water took its original form, wrapped the sword and followed the flow of the stream, which would carry it to the grate water, the one that Gods had made to cure their thirst.

Long time pasted and the sword into the water started to rust , lost its edges and even the fishes reached it without fear and made fun of it. The sword painfully withdraw from the water of the stream. Without its cutting edges and defeated , complained: “I’m stronger than the water, but I can’t damage it. The water beat me, without even fighting.”
There are times we have to fight like asword against a wild animal, and times we fight like the tree against the storm, or times we have to fight like a stone against time. But there are also times we have to fight like the water against the sword, the tree, the stone. This is the time to become like the water and continue our way towards the river which will bring us to the grate water, where the Mighty Gods cure their thirst, the first ones, those that gave birth to Cosmos.}
(MESSAGE: The way we fight must be depending on the circumstances .)
