FURTHER ADVENTURES IN NO MAN'S SKY
My journey took me to a planet with vast oceans. Dotted here and there among that vast body of water, hidden behind continent-sized cloud banks, were many small islands. I steered a course toward one of them.
Approaching the surface with the sun rising over the horizon, I could see waves lapping at a distant shore. Black, craggy peaks rose up to greet me and tree-like plants grew here and there.
The craft settled down on the surface, and I climbed out. Snow and ice crunched beneath my feet as I stepped onto the ground. The air was crystal clear and the skies light blue, and all around me were trees seemingly dusted with icing sugar. I set off on my journey, making for that distant coast.
After walking for a while I noticed a largish creature that was grazing on some clumps of grass. It reminded me somewhat of a rhino, only it was quite a bit smaller and striped like a zebra. It did not seem to concerned by my presence, merely walking calmly away as I approached. It gave off an attitude of being more than able to defend itself if needs be and yet did not seem at all aggressive. I conjecture that it was not at all territorial.
By the time I had made it to the shoreline the sun was dipping below the horizon, casting a golden glow over the waters. The cliffs and myriad tiny islands stood silhouetted against a sky that had taken on a tint of pink. I waded into the cold water and prepared to dive.
Using breaststrokes to propel myself toward the sea bed, I noticed the entrance to an underwater cavern. Underwater vegetation clung to the sandstone rock from which this submerged cave had been carved. Into the cave I went.
I found myself in an eerie subterranean world. The cave went on for some distance, and it was a struggle not to succumb to claustrophobia as I pushed my way past waving fronds of sea weed in search of an exit.
After a short while I found a gap large enough to squeeze through and swam out of the cave into the expanse of the ocean. Large coral structures grew out of underwater hills that stretched off into the impenetrable distance. As I swam along, I became surrounded by a school of vaguely squid like creatures. They swarmed around me, and with some alarm I noticed that each had a sharp looking beak nested at the centre of its tentacles. I reacted with horror as these things attached themselves to me, attempting to penetrate my environmental protection suit with those beaks. Fighting to remain calm, I headed for the nearest bit of dry land. There I stood until these sea creatures had no choice but to detach themselves from me and return to their watery home.
My adventure continued.
