Welcome To The Steemit Story Chain
A jolly hello to all you creative Steemer types out there. It's time for the fifth Steemit Story Chain. For those of you unfamiliar with this contest to put it simply you are the writer of the story. The Steemer that writes the most compelling part of the story chain will win 100 Whaleshares, which is currently a generous $17 boost to any one of your posts. I am very proud to be sponsored by the fabulous Whaleshares that is doing a lot of good for minnows in the community.
I want to say a massive thank you to everyone that contributed to last week's story chain so thank you to @yardley-elbert, @tinajordan, @dreamingirwin, @sostrin and that @thatindianlady. Your efforts were gratefully appreciated. My new judge @nikflossus and I had a very tough job but we have now decided on the winning post.
@tinajordan

In those fleeting moments, it was as if chaos had descended from the heavens into the courtroom. The judge and bailiff were struggling to control the noise arising from speculative chatter while still coming to grips with what had just transpired. I knew without hesitation what I had to do to alter the course of fate before the chance to remedy my silence evaded me.
Calmly retrieving my pistol from an inner pocket, I made my way to the front of the courtroom. It wasn't difficult at all to slip a surprise by the guards and metal detectors out front. After all, it was one of the first tests for a special field agent. Rudimentary truly, for one in my line of work.
Before the bailiff has time to react, I aim the pistol at Michael's heart while gaining a stance behind him. He's shackled, so getting him out of here might prove to be a bit of a challenge, but I know my way around a crisis situation undeniably.
"What the hell are you doing?" Michael barks.
"Saving your ass and likely my soul."
Out of the corner of my eye, I see the SWAT team arriving around the corner of West Haven Blvd. It was now or never. Time to cut a trail...
Now moving on to this week's new story called An Unfamiliar Road, if you would like to take part then all you need to do is write the next part of the story. I will write the first part and then it is over to you to develop the story in whatever way you want. You must upvote and resteem this post if you wish to take part in the contest. Don't forget to also number which part of the story you are writing. So that's it. Be creative, be ambitious and have fun.
This contest is sponsored by Whaleshares and I owe a big thank you to @akrid. There is 100 Whaleshares for the winning entry. If you would like to learn more about Whaleshares and how they can significantly increase your post rewards please visit https://steemit.com/whaleshares/@eirik/guide-on-how-to-use-whaleshares-updated-versionwhere @eirik will gladly explain more to you.
I have a new judge on the panel who started last week, @nikflossus will be helping me to decide which one of your entries deserves the winning prize. We are looking for:
- A strong sense of imagination
- Creative intelligence
- Originality
- Narrative fluidity (ensuring the story chain links smoothly)
- Use of language, grammar and syntax (we need to understand what you're saying!)
The winner will be announced in a week's time. A new post will be published then announcing the winner along with a new story chain. So without any further delay here is part one of An Unfamiliar Road.
I stand here in this road looking for an answer I can't find. I need to make a decision and fast. Should I stay and know that a life in prison awaits. Or shall I leave and give myself a chance? If I go I will always be looking over my shoulder. Will he find me? Will they get to me? It's now or never. But it's still not too late to return and pretend that none of this ever happened. No one knows what's in the hood of my car, and no one need ever know. None of this is my fault. So why do I feel so bad? Life used to be kinder to me. I want a life again. I deserve that. Stay or go? Time is running out. I must decide right now.

KRACCK! I was startled back into the moment as the night sky filled with the shimmer of lightning. Just then, it was as if the skies opened up, pouring down sheets of water and I laughed. I screamed at the sky " Is this the best you got?". I could make out headlights in the distance as I just stood there by my car get soaking wet. The lights got closer and the car stopped. The driver rolled down the window . The driver was about my age , with dark hair and had a kind face that reminded me of my brother Billy. " Car trouble he shouted over the rain" . I nodded my head. " Can I give you a ride, there is a gas station about 5 miles up the road from here". I said " Sure, give me a minuite let me just close the hood." I made sure to see that he wasnt paying attention and removed the bundel from inside my hood and hid it in my jacket. It was hot and throbbing and I felt it might burn a hole through my chest. I hated having that thing this close to me. I had that quesy , slimy feeling i get whenever i got close to it.I got in the car and let out a sigh, well at least I was dry. " I don't offen see pretty girls like you out here in the middle of nowhere" Great, he was fliritng with me. This must be some kind of cosmic joke. It just keeps getting better and better. Well at least I was moving, going somewhere. "So I'm Jeff, what your name?" "umm a, my name is Sara. Hey listen Jeff, is there a motel nearby ? I need to dry off and its late. I can look into fixing the car tomorrow." He sat quite for a moment. I looked at him closely and I didnt get any bad vibes from him. I am usually a good judge of character. He was actually kinda cute. " The nearest hotel is about an hour from here. I was just on my way home from work. I live about 15 minutes from here. Your are welcome to stay with me until morning" He said with a sly smile. I looked up at the roof of the car and thought to myself, " Ok this is how this is gonna go. Keep testing me" I turned to Jeff and said " Wow , thats so nice of you. that would be awesome. "It was strange because at that moment the package stopped throbbing and became cool. I felt slightly less queasy. I took this as a good sign.I was probably gonna be safe here for the night. They might find the car but they will have no idea where I disappeared to.

2 Upon arriving at Jeff's house, he offered me a coffee and began preparing a small dinner. I needed to be alone, I tapped my foot "tap, tap, tap", I was feeling quite anxious. I was hoping that some sort of guest room existed in the house. The house was an older home, it was puke green in color and falling apart, but it was large. Jeff offered me a sandwich, I politely declined stating instead "A hot shower would be nice". Jeff led me to a small bathroom, it smelled of old people and cheese popcorn. The bathroom was attached to a spare room, empty aside from a bed and a lamp, it was just what I needed. I thanked Jeff and he went about his evening. Locking the door, I removed the parcel from my jacket and placed it on the bed, it immediately slammed itself with incredible force into the wall. Panicked, I locked the door and started the shower. I placed myself in the corner far away from the the book as it was now quite clear to me that the paranoia it was causing me was justified. I hadn't opened the book yet, it had symbols on the front that I was not familiar with, they glowed the brightest of orange. This glow is what had given me the urge to pick the package up in the first place. If Steven hadn't attacked me two days prior, I wouldn't be in this mess. I knew that Steven was bad news. I decided to go to the lake with him anyways. When he attacked me I ran, after I was sure he was no longer following, I rested briefly against a fallen tree, that is when I saw the book. It was dark out and at first I thought it must be an animal. It was moving and making a low guttural sound. I took out a small knife from my purse and approached, the glow drew me in and I picked the package up.

3 Suddenly the package began to make quick twisting spasms and harsh barking yelps. I dropped it. This wasn't good. Steven had told me that if this happened, it wasn't good. I took a step back and pulled a crumpled note from my pocket. It was a list of instructions. I scanned it quickly, wincing at Steven's childlike writing.
Don't give the package any sudden jolts
Don't talk directly to the package.
Don't keep the package anywhere near any religious text.
What use was this? Suddenly there was a loud tearing noise. The brown sacking that served as a cover was starting to come loose. There was nothing in the list about the package coming to life. I scanned to the bottom of the page.
FOR EMERGENCY INSTRUCTIONS PTO.
I turned the sheet over.
If exposed to a loud noise, the package MUST be placed somewhere quiet for at least an hour.
If severely jolted, the package MUST be restrained and refrigerated for 24 hours MINIMUM
If the package makes any sounds, open the grimoire and read the paragraph on page 7 marked 'CALMING'
If the package starts to move, open the grimoire and read from page 93 beginning at the paragraph marked 'BANISHING'. Do NOT stop reading until the package is still.
Do NOT read anything after page 301
I snatched up the book or Grimoire or whatever it was. The orange symbols on the front were glowing so brightly they were almost white. I turned to page 93 and began to read.

Suddenly!
A seven foot werewolf burst through the door. It stares coldly at Jeff as he picks him self up off the floor from the door hitting him. When he finally sees what is before him, horror fills his lungs. As he attempts to breathe, he knows he must do something quick.
By the couch in the side table he always had a Ruger SR22 pistol in there. Just in case some one ever try to break in. Jeff just never thought he would have to be using it against this monster in his living room.
As Jeff goes to take aim. The werewolf as quick as a blink in the eye moves and give him a forearm to his upper body, sending Jeff flying a cross the room.
Mean while Sara with all the lightning does not hear the struggle Jeff is going through. The book and the symbols though are now flash bright and then dim. As if it was some sort of warning, or attempt to tell her something.
She opens the book as she drifts in and out of consciousness, some thing is whispering in her mind. Keep going, go to page 302 it is the only way your going to save him. Do you want to save him, then she turns the page....
