A Beautiful moral story with a valuable life lesson
Value of Truth
A long time ago, in a small village, there lived a poor boy named Ravi. His family was very poor, but Ravi was kind-hearted and honest. His mother always taught him that no matter what happens, one should never stray from the path of truth and honesty. Ravi always remembered his mother’s words and followed these principles in his life.
Near the village, there was a dense forest where people often went to cut wood. Ravi would also go to the forest daily, cut wood, and sell it in the market, earning some money to help his family. One day, while cutting wood in the forest, his axe accidentally fell into a nearby river. Ravi was very worried because the axe was his livelihood, and he didn’t have the money to buy another one.
Feeling hopeless, Ravi sat by the riverbank and prayed to God, “Oh God, please help me. My axe is very precious, and without it, I won’t be able to help my family.” Hearing his prayer, a God emerged from the river. The God asked Ravi, “What is troubling you, child?”
Ravi truthfully explained, “My axe has fallen into the river. I am very poor and do not have the money to buy another one.”
Impressed by Ravi’s honesty, the God went into the river and brought out a golden axe, asking, “Is this your axe?”
Ravi immediately replied, “No, this is not my axe. My axe was made of simple iron.”
The God went into the river again and brought out a silver axe, asking, “Is this your axe?”
Once again, Ravi said, “No, my axe was a simple iron one.”
The God went into the river for the third time and brought out an iron axe, asking, “Is this your axe?”
Ravi joyfully replied, “Yes, this is my axe!”
The God was very pleased with Ravi’s truthfulness and honesty. He said, “I am very happy with your honesty. As a reward, I give you all three axes – the golden one, the silver one, and the iron one.” Ravi was overjoyed and thanked the deity. He took all three axes and happily returned home.
When the other villagers heard Ravi’s story, they were amazed. Some of them were greedy and thought that if they also dropped their axes into the river and lied to the God, they would get golden and silver axes.
The next day, a greedy man from the village deliberately dropped his axe into the river and cried out loudly to call the God. When the God appeared and asked him about his problem, he lied and said, “My axe has fallen into the river. Please help me.”
The God went into the river and brought out a golden axe, asking, “Is this your axe?”
The greedy man immediately said, “Yes, this is my axe!”
The God, angered by his lie, said, “You are lying. This is not your axe.” Saying this, the God did not return his axe and disappeared. The greedy man not only failed to get the golden axe but also lost his original axe.
This incident spread throughout the village, and people understood that truthfulness and honesty are the greatest virtues. Like Ravi, those who are honest always succeed, while those who lie and deceive eventually lose everything.
Moral: Truth and honesty always lead to success and respect in life, while lies and God ultimately lead to destruction.
