Some days seem like they're meant to test you...

These are the days you wish you weren't a nurse.

Abuse isn't always perpetrated by individuals who are intoxicated, sometimes it comes in the form of an individual who has been brought up to think the world owes them something. Tonight I encountered this individual.

Before she even made it to my bed, She was making enemies. Reception had been accused of racism and stupidity... and I was next in the firing line.
Before I had even put my gloves on to inspect a small 1 cm laceration. I was accused of racism, being rude, being the worst nurse ever, being judgmental and, believe it or not, a complete bitch. How dare I think that she would be here, on a Friday night unless she actually needed to be. How dare I accuse her of wasting time on a cut for no reason.

I was a dumb idiotic girl and she wasn't letting me near her.

I had said 2 words to this woman before she spat the dummy...

She was further dealt with by the doctor. She continued to scream to the entire room about how incompetent I was for the duration of her visit.

After this (and a bit of time I needed to calm down) I was greeted with a lovely broken arm... in 2 places it appeared.

On a 3 year old.

The story was, that the 3 year old was allowed to jump from the cupboard onto the bed repeatedly, and on this occasion had missed the bed and fallen straight onto her arm.

The X-rays confirmed the fractures and plaster had to be applied to nearly the entire length of this poor tiny things arm.

Last case was a lady who had chopped off the tip of her Left index finger while chopping onions for dinner. Now by tip, I mean, maybe an eighth of the nail was taken off too?

This woman was screaming as if she was giving birth. She was kicking and writhing all over the bed.

Let's just say I've never seen someone get anaesthetic so quickly. A little paraffin gauze and a pressure bandage, and she was all ready to go.

Sometimes you're days can be testing, and other days the time will just fly by.... just make sure the time that's spent... is worth it.

Nurse.
