Episode 13

Days turned into time, time evolved into moments,Nike couldn't believe life could give her all she wanted at such a short period, she saw Akin as the answer to all her long offered prayers. She used every second to thank God for bringing him into her life. He gave her all she wanted even before asking,he didn't even pester her for sex, she was at the peak of her life, within months her life took a drastic change, he continued to surprise her with early morning gifts, home made dinners, surprise gifts, impromptu vacation. She wondered if this was God's way of compensating her for all she had been through.

" Nike,I am very sure he is going to pop the big question tonight" Amaka said as she watched Nike apply her makeup

Nike giggled " why do you think that would be happening today?" She asked, turning to look at Amaka.

" If he doesn't want to propose to you, why will he be taking you to his parents house" She answered

Nike shook her head "sometimes, the way you think amaze me", she returned to the mirror

"But I know deep down that is what you want", Amaka continued

"Wo, amaka fimile" she shouted

" See,don't just dull yourself, I can't wait to see you walking down the aisle" she said returning to her bed

Nike sighed inwardly, she couldn't shake away the feeling of anxiety that threatened to overwhelm her any second. She adjusted her bracelet and fingered her neck chain.she muttered silent prayers.

"Hey kiddo, take care owkay, don't lock the door" she hurried out,

"Hey babe, you look awesome" Akin said as soon as she entered the car.

"Thanks to you" she said happily, taking his hand into hers. She stared outside, watching the trees fly by, she wondered if this that she was feeling wouldn't end the same way.

"Hey sweetie" he rubbed her knees "what is wrong, you look far away, what is on your mind" he asked

She took a deep breath "I don't know how your parents would feel about me"

He stared at her "seriously, you didn't just say that did you" he packed the car

"Look here, I like you just the way you are, have you seen your self, there is no better version of you" he added, holding her hands. "So when you get there, knock them away with your smiles, and be you" he continued, he stroked her hair lovingly.

Nike stared at the road as he continued driving.

" He, he uncle akin, welcome o" the gateman shouted as he opened the gate, he hurried to the car door as soon as Akin stopped the car " I have been expecting you for a long time" he said smiling, looking inside the car.

Akin let out a heartily laughter " and now you have seen me, what do you have for me"

"Aunty welcome o" he greeted as soon as Nike stepped out, her legs hit one another as she walked towards the door. Akin held her hands in support as they walked inside together.

"Akinwale oko mi, omo ajun eshin ko le, omo won ni ilu ibadan" Akin's mom eulogized as he entered. He smiled and postrated infront her, Nike walked inside slowly, conscious of her surroundings, she knelt down as soon as Akin's mom gaze fell on her.

"Han, han why did you not tell me you were bringing a beautiful girl home" his mom queried, pulling Nike up to her feet.

" Mommy, you have started, atleast I told you about her the last time we spoke". He answered, sitting down beside Nike

" Yes you did but you didn't tell me you will be coming with her" she said

" Well, she is here" he answered smiling at her.

" Ehm my daughter what is your name?" She asked, facing Nike whose eyes were down since she entered

" Adenike olagunju" she answered.

" Wow, the name suits you, adenike omo oba" she said playfully, " you are from which state" she asked

"Ekiti ma" she answered looking down

" He he he" his mom shrieked "Akin, so you want to be eating pounded yam everyday.

Segun burst into laughter " mommy!" He exclaimed

" See thank God you decided to come today, your younger brother is around" she said " but I don't know why he has not come down, am sure he has that stupid ear piece stucked in his ear.

" Really, he didn't tell me" Akin said looking surprised.

" He came to collect money as usual" she said, "let me send him a text, I can't climb the stairs"

" So what would you eat iyawo mi" she asked as soon as she heard footsteps approaching

"Anything ma"

Akin's mother stared at her " anything is nothing to me o" she answered looking at segun for affirmation." Shey mon paro ni?"

" No ma" he answered

"Egbon mi"

Nike shifted uncomfortably , the voice strangely familiar, she looked up only to see Segun's piercing stare.

You have a minor misspelling in the following sentence:

He smiled and postrated infront her, Nike walked inside slowly, concious of her surroundings, she knelt down as soon as Akin's mom gaze fell on her.
It should be conscious instead of concious.
